Guest
Hi Today i bought some ammo for my 22 rimfire and the man in the shop took a copy of my FAC licence,I was not happy about this as if he loses it or if it gets stolen the thief would no where i live so i made him remove my address and post code off it. I have only had my FAC for a month and i just wondered if this is common practice. Thanks Neil

hambone
They only need to fill in the ammo section in the shop, don't think I have had my licence copied.
HDAV
Perhaps he was without his register and needed it to enter the info at a later date?
cremator
mmm cant see why they need a copy they should just fill what you have had from them where did u go
Chris Bb
Don't know about FAC but SCATS (the shop) enters all SGC details on their computer when buying cartridges. All other suppliers merely look at the SGC. I wouldn't mind if SCATS kept records that speeded things up but, no, every time you go in you have to wait 5 minutes or more while the girl re-enters your details. Thinks, I wonder how the Data Protection Act views this?
huntsman
Doesnt sound right to me Did you not question why he had to take a copy
Scully
Aren't FAC and SGC copyright of the crown? Have never had anyone request a copy of mine.
Mike737
Hotels (abroad) often (always?) copy passports... They presumably are also Crown Copyright.
HDAV
Thinks, I wonder how the Data Protection Act views this? I brought this up when BASC announced all RFD's had to go computerised....potentially major data security concerns
Whitebridges
Did the fella in the shop actually tell you he was going to copy your FAC and tell you why he was doing this? Did you see the copy he made?

steve_b_wales
When a certificate is photocopied, the copy will have 'counterfeit' or 'copy' on it. Try it with yours and see what it says.
Davyo
The only time I have had a licence copied was when joining NPPC.But the copy was returned when I decided not to renew my membership. Hotel receptions have often kept my passport 'til departure; have no idea if they've been copied though.
simon1979
never had my FAC copied for ammo purchase, but i have it copied when ive purchased rifles in the past, and like wise if ive sold any rifles private i take a copy of the buyers FAC to. Guest
Hi Thanks for the replies,he did fill my ammunition section of my licence but copied it as well. I asked his why and he said just in case the police do an audit,so i said that i did not want the sale to go through if he had a copy of my licence,in the end i ripped my address and post code off it. He said not one else has complained but if my address gets in the wrong hands they could steal my guns. I am phoning him tomorrow first job...... Thanks
Imperfection
I've had my FAC photocopied several times while buying ammunition at shooting shows at Bisley.Often the dealers havent got full computer access when away from their base so taking a copy means they can input the details later when they get back. It dont worry me one bit.
CharlieT
It dont worry me one bit. Nor me and I presume not the police either, as they always send my certificates second class post which can hardly be described as secure. Thanks I see you point, i know purchasing a rifle is a little different, but he would take all you details, like wise you would take someones details if you brought or sold private. I do see what your saying though.
