i was stopped by the plod several years ago....and asked for my licence...to which i pulled out a copy, he then proceeded to tell me it was illegal to copy a liecence and to have a copy in my possesion.....long and short of the story was that he phoned a plod mate of mine who he knew...all sorted.....i do not like carrying around my original, since then i have been stopped and asked for my licence ...which i didnt have but they played on their computor and confirmed i was who i said i was...its all a bit grey this licence stuff

I carry a laminated colour copy of the top half of my SGC with the word COPY in big red letters on it. An FEO I showed it to thought it was a great idea.

Same here, scanned no problem

When me and the farmer got stopped on a nights lamping I was asked for my licence I produced a copy he said -- not legal -- I agreed but it proved I had a licence and he could check on the PNC anyway - it was all done with a smile.

Clarkes of Walsham Le Willows use to take a photocopy of your SGC then you could collect or order for delivery without your SGC, I had them delivered this way. (1000 minimum)

I never take the originals I use copies of both FAC and SGC.

I ask to hold a copy of every SGC or FAC of an guns going through my RFD register as Hampshire police suggested I should no one has refused so far, also means when delivering guns I don't have to carry my register just a photocopy app on the phone.

Phone app doesn't show any hidden text, not does printer scanner but my photocopier does.

Just cartridges keep a photocopy for ammo sales or they have of my SGC FAC and RFD over the years.

Hi

Today i bought some ammo for my 22 rimfire and the man in the shop took a copy of my FAC licence,I was not happy about this as if he loses it or if it gets stolen the thief would no where i live so i made him remove my address and post code off it.

I have only had my FAC for a month and i just wondered if this is common practice.

Thanks

Neil

mine got lost in the post twice this time last year ,all I could think about was wot if ,phoned and asked if I could pick the third one up no was the answer they delivered it personally ,life is to short to worry about wot if just enjoy

My friend asked to use my All-in-One printer. First we put it through the direct copy part and it copied it fine without any hidden wording showing up and then the ink ran out so I put it on the flat bed scanner so that after I changed the ink I could print it from my pc. Well after I had changed the inks, I printed it out and the words "illegal copy" showed up. Very strange indeed!

me too in West Yorkshire and many local PW members have used me and thought nothing of it. When you see a lot of FAC's, you see a lot of mistakes and transcription errors done on certs by the police as well as what could be considered contradictory variations that are vague. The possibility of these being mistakenly interpreted and possibly altered at a later date encourages me to keep a copy of the facing page and conditions and is also proof of seeing the cert itself. Of course everything has to abide by the data protection act but if a paranoid shooter is concerned about theft of this copy, don't forget the facts and details are all on the dealers register anyway which is theoretically equally at risk if stored with equal security.

I am more concerned over the theft of my name and address,it's not about being paranoid,i just don't want my personal info shared if the shop got broke into.

Thanks

You can't purchase ammo with a copy of an FAC. I'm surprised that the police are saying that you can. In fact, I'm surprised that any RFD would do this. Sounds like asking for trouble to me.

I am a bit concerned about the rise in people telling me that their F.A.C.has been photocopied by dealers . One person said that a dealer used the excuse that it helped him fill in details latter if the shop was busy. I think the whole thing has more to do with the audits of dealers stock and sales carried out by police inspection teams and helps verify that records are accurate - a record of ammunition sales to you in the past on your certificate would need to match his records. I have no objection to this but a copy of my certificate would have my name on it and I would be concerned if they were simply stuffed in a bin. Certificates have a personal identification number which the police can quickly identify on their computer and I feel that this together with the serial number should be all that any dealer should require .

There is no benefit in the police asking RFD's to keep copies of certificates. All of the information they might want is kept in the dealers register anyway. Keeping a copy of the certificate provides no more - it can't as the details of the cert are entered on the register.

It also provides no greater security threat the the holder as if the photocopies can be stolen from the shop then so can the register which also contains your name and address. I suppose the sole argument which could be made is that the certificate has a photo on it but that is hardly of much significance to a criminal really.

How do they know the cert hasn't been revoked since the copy was emailed?

A very relevant question!
