Brad93
Hi guys, ive had my FAC for about 2 years now but havent actually got round to buying a gun, i've got slots for .22lr and .17hmr along with matching moderators. Anyways my 21st birthday is coming up and currently im looking at either a CZ 452 or 455 with a laminate walnut thumbhole stock in .22 Has any one got one of these, any faults or issues? Other than that im looking at getting a .17hmr Anschutz 1517 thumbhole in walnut. obviously there is a big price difference between the two guns. Any thoughts appreciated. Hoping for the gun to last a long time so down want it to be breaking any time soon.

Brad93
Whatever happens i will be getting a .22 and a .17hmr but im just trying to decide which to get first. I do love the annie, is that 14" barrel or the longer 18" Edited January 8, 2014 by Brad93
foxbuster
I've had them both, nothing wrong with the cz but the Annie's are just that bit classier, not so agricultural so to speak. I have the 14'' barrels in both .22 and hmr, accuracy is awesome with both.
robbiep
A little off-topic perhaps, but surely you had to show 'good reason' and 'need' to get an FAC. How on earth can a delay of 2 years be justified in that case ?
Brad93
Well I'm only 20 mate money doesn't grow on trees, also a rather unfortunate year followed me getting the licence resulting in a lack of time and money. Have kept the landowners happy with the air rifle but the time has come to start bashing a few more bunnies
robbiep
I was just curious. I know of one person who got his FAC for .22LR and moderator for pest control, and 18 months later it was revoked as no gun had been purchased, so, in the words of the police, he did not have 'good reason or need' for a FAC. rimmie
That's a 16" barrel mate, so accurate it's boring !!! Only down side is the 4 round mag :( you could put one up the spout then 4 in the mag if you really wanted too.

Dont think the magazine will be an issue, can always pick up a spare. Will definitely have a CZ, the HMR just fulfills my immediate needs at the moment, but will want the .22 for lamping at a later stage

SHIPPERS
i have a sako quod in 22lr 22wmr and 17hmr thats one gun but three barrels to choose from,22lr curved trajectory and quiet, zero at 50 yards longer than that the then you are into hold over mode.22wmr still a curved trajectory not as much as the 22 sub,but alot more knock down power and you will get a crack when fired due to the speed of the round.then the 17 hmr i love this one, flat for 100 yds and so fast, bunnies don't know whats hit them.hope this will help you make your choice.happy hunting. Dekers
The CZ will do everything you will ever want by way of accuracy, repeatability and reliability in the field. Many will suggest other guns are better, but NOBODY will tell you any other gun stops more rabbits etc!

kent
Hi guys, ive had my FAC for about 2 years now but havent actually got round to buying a gun, i've got slots for .22lr and .17hmr along with matching moderators. Hoping for the gun to last a long time so down want it to be breaking any time soon. The 452 is the older version now discontinued but a great used buy (be aware that many get muddled up advertising with the two numbers) It has an allow action and dedicated std and magnum rimfire action. Barrels cannot be changed due the action design to all practical purposes - but why? just buy another gun The 455 has one action size magnum rimfire and the LR gets plastic packers to reduce. Its action is steel and barrels can be changed (not a home DIY thing to be fair, its not a switch barrel either). Cosmetically the two guns are different but the basic mini mauser design remains, the varmint has a thicker tube than the older 452 varmint (personally I like this) I have shot both these guns extensively, I keep only the 452 in .22 lr varmint that I have had years, there is little chance you could outshoot this gun even with extensive training and practice The Annie will not outshoot a CZ but neither does that work in reverse, they are both limited more by the ammo you feed them and of course the guy squeezing the trigger. I should however carefully consider spending the extra on an Annie though as the CZ with a better scope, more magazines and a better moderator, sling and possibly bipod will likely be better than an Annie with a rubbish scope, one mag, rubbish sling and basic bipod- So only go Annie if you have sufficient for all the gubbins to not be compromised (mags are harder to get and more expensive BTW)
BrowningDJC
Ive got both .22 and .17 CZ's, brilliant rifles.

Will definitely have a CZ, the HMR just fulfills my immediate needs at the moment, but will want the .22 for lamping at a later stage No it's factory, they do 14,16 and 18" barrels. Don't get me wrong my first HMR was a CZ 452 American, had a 16" Heavy barrel, great gun very accurate. I sold it and left the hmr slot blank for a while, then played with the 455 thumb hole, and to me the stock just felt to bulky and unrefined. Then I picked up the Annie and it was so much sleeker and IMO better quality, the stock is shaped much better, for me anyway. The trigger breaks like glass straight out of the box, unlike the CZ's. The mags are easy to get (riflemags.com) but as said are more expensive, but then again are metal not plastic. But again as I said CZ's are a fantastic rifle, and would have another tomorrow if I was looking, but for me the Annie is better quality all round. I would go and Handle both, then make your mind up Edited January 10, 2014 by rimmie
