955i
Was watching a debate about car ads this morning, and it occurred to me that although adverts for cars are everywhere on TV, you never see any for bikes, including from manufacturers like Honda and Suzuki who produce both types of vehicle and advertise their cars in TV ads. Anyone got any ideas why none are shown?
Greenhunter
Haven't got the least idea but it certainly is a very good question! Mind you, thinking about it, I can't remember a time when motorbikes were advertised on TV and I was around when TV ads first started GH
Sha Bu Le
Reasons seem to range from too small a marketing area v the cost o TV ads to a big brother nanny type attitude of the big TV companies. Have a look here, seems to be similar in Canada too. uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=1006042401652 Cached Click me Edited February 3, 2014 by Sha Bu Le
nobbyathome
because the product is so good they sell themselves they are advertised on the sports channels ie Honda wings of change and the Suzuki ad the trouble is bad press with accidents and manifactures would rather put ads on the channels with more likewise people that accept the risks Honda also do the subliminal advert with cars bikes boats lawnmowers on the normal channel it is a shame I love bikes and would like to see more advertising done and get more youngsters involved in it

Zapp
Good question, and one of those things that you never notice until someone points it out I've no idea as to the answer.
kdubya
there are adds on TV but only on the sport channels , the wind of change add comes to mind Suzuki I think, either way too limited a market to justify add cost on mainstream would be my reason for lack of adds. figgy
There are still adds for bikers, organ doners cards. As a doctor once said to a transplant patient when looking out the window, shouldn't be long its raining. The bikes today are so fast its frightening. Not so many ride bikes as they did years ago, so market is not as big, not worth the cost of expensive advertising. People have more money and prefer a car to a bike as a means of transport, years ago a bike was only just affordable to run so was the transport for a lot of people to get to and from work. figgy
 had a few scrapes and near misses on them two wheeled petrol driven infernal machines. Only ever had racers as bikes till my teens then a bmx and back to a racer. Had a mountain bike as an adult for a while. Only bike that interests me now is a quad bike with four wheels and then only offroad. Figgy
mr_magicfingers
Yes modern bikes are fast, so are modern cars but they both have massively better brakes, suspension, engines and tyres than in days of old. Loads more people ride bikes these days since they became reliable, just like the modern cars. You have to remember that not all bikes are firebreathing rocket ships. A vespa is a bike, as are all the different little (and not so little) scooters you see around the place. There's all size and shape of bikes out there used for everything from commuting to work to disappearing off round the world. Think about Ewan and Charlie's Long Way Round and Long Way Down series and the amount of new people that put on bikes and the fact that it lead to the BMW R1150GS becoming the best selling bike in Britain, outselling everything including the fast shiny bikes. Admittedly most of them will never see a dirt road but it does show that good product placement certainly pays Some of us never stopped riding and I certainly see plenty out on my daily commute, though less over the winter that's for sure.
