Chrissmith0881
What make and size scope would people recommend for 22lr your opinions please!
tharsus
I have had a old Tasco varmint 2.5-10x42 on a variety of 22s, does the job. You do not need to spend a lot on glass for a
welshwarrior
6x42 6x42 people tend to use and abuse a 22 more than another rifle a good 6x42 is great under lamp and hold zero everything you could ever ask for and if you buy well it will hold it's value better than any other
Dekers
Some people will tell you to spend a fortune.... If your intended use is field, and the likes of bunnies at sensible distances, then pretty much anything you like, £100 buys you a perfectly capable scope for that job, day and night! Check out some of the JSR, Hawke, Nikko Sterling, etc., you really don't need anything better, some just want better. Obviously if you are talking serious target work it may well be a different matter! Edited May 1, 2014 by Dekers
bullet boy
Got a Simmons WTC 1.5-5 x 20 on my Ruger 10/22.Lovely scope!!
Paddy Galore!
my first scope was a hawke 3-9x50, it did very well for a cheapie.
telf
i personally think the AMD reticle on mtc scopes is the best ret for a .22,plenty of holdover points and not to cluttered
la bala
Not everyones cup of tea but i have never had a problem with Hawke.
bicykillgaz
I'm with welshwarrior a half decent 6x42 is more than enough for a .22lr. I've ended up with a meopta 6x42 with a 4b reticle, I don't miss extra mag or twiddly bits and bobs and it's great in low light or under a lamp. NickB65
Some people say spend as much again on the scope but on a .22LR I see little point - I have a Nikko Stirling 6-26x50 Gameking which is way OOT for the role - I have it on 10 x mag as that gives me the best range on the mil-dots and it stays on that. Cracking scope though but HAWKE or MTC are just as good.

Whitebridges
Yawn ,zzzzz Open your wallets and stick a HQ x50 on those rimmies.
Gimlet
I'd go 6 X 42 as well with a simple uncluttered reticle. I've never needed milldot rets or such like on a .22 lr. I've got a Leupold VXII 3-9 X 40 I bought S/H for £100 which would make an ideal .22 scope for the price of a far Eastern cheapie and more or less indestructible. bicykillgaz
If you do decided on a simple fixed mag the Edgar brothers opti-mate 6x44 are excellent value for money. There about £99 new 30mm body and better glass than most similar priced scopes, but for an extra £20-60 you could get a secondhand meopta 6x42 or 7x50 if you want that extra bit of mag. jgguinness
Had a Meopta 7x50 on my .22lr. Fantastic scope, didn't want for anything more at all. Amazing low light gathering too. Like Gaz, I would get another one of these in a heart beat. Probs around £130-150 second hand. Jonathan
fendrover90
Not everyones cup of tea but i have never had a problem with Hawke.nowt wrong with a hawke dave I've got two on my rims they do get bashed about in the truck it would be a shame to trash a expensive scope
kent
6x42 of a good make, it don't need to be brand new but it does need to hold its zero and give good resolution in poor light. I have a S+Bender on mine. view cost against those who are constantly swaping and selling, I recon this scope has cost me about £25 for every year I have owned it and will likely be just for many, many years to come. .22 lr most take out to say 100 yards say, so you don't need any more mag than 6x unless your shooting competitively at targets and you cant get any more light than a 6x with a 42 mm objective gathers (7mm exit pupil)
jgguinness
There is a canny scope on BBS. Advert says: second hand Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 3x9x50, mint condition £
turbo33
I have an MTC Viper, fixed 10x44 on mine...mint s/hand £100. Ir if you like that sort of thing, integral flip ups, side parallax, crystal clear image and re settable target turrets if you want to dial in
bullet boy
This is mine and it's set on 5x power and it's great on lamp at night too. ATVB.

I couldn't imagine any situation where I would contemplate any scope starting at 10x for a .22lr in general field use, but obviously turbo33 is very happy! Colster
I'm with gaz on this, get a decent S/H 6x42 and you won't regret it. Yes Hawke, Simmons etc will do the job but having been through loads of different scopes on both my rimfires I settled on a S/H Leupold FX III on the .22LR and a Pecar on the HMR (which stays on 6x all the time) - ok I'd accept the Pecar is probably overdoing it but I got a bargain when I bought it. Like many on here, I don't fiddle with the scope in the field so I didn't want or need fancy illuminated christmas trees and parallxy do dahs, just a duplex crosshair and great glass that holds the light well into dusk. The Hawkes and other cheaper scopes I had worked well but it was always the low light performance that held them back. If you can find a decent European S/H for around the £100-£150 mark I'd go for that. Edited May 6, 2014 by Colster
