Rape stubble

yesterday there was some 300* on the wheat stubble and so I planned for a day out today. Got there for around 10.30 and there wasn't a bird around. I drive round a few local permissions and the area was devoid of any significant numbers.

I was out anyway and taken a day holiday so decided to set up on the rape stubble where I lifted all of about a dozen birds getting to my hide spot. I was set up by midday using a permanent hide we'd built previously.

The wind was blowing around 15mph left to right. I put out a magnet 15 yards to my left and about 20 yards out. I put out half a dozen dead birds on cradles in from of the hide starting at 20 yards with the furthest about 30 yards in a random pattern mostly facing the wind, and I also put out a bouncer with a dead bird about the same distance as the magnet but to my right.

It never got busy but I shot steady until around 4pm. The birds decoyed nicely but flew in like missiles. I shot reasonably well today and finished with 54 with 49 picked.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

I really enjoyed it. It was a little bit of an experiment day in that I normally decoy using 3/8 choke but changed to 1/2 choke because of the strong wind, any flaring birds are off like lightning. I surprised myself and am now going to stick to 1/2 choke for all my pigeon shooting.

I changed my mounting style late last year and my shooting has come on in leaps and bounds giving me more confidence.
