stubear
There seems to be a heck of a lot of backlogs all over the place at the moment! It took Hampshire 5 months to grant my SGC and I've read of a lot of other forces taking similar amounts of time and longer in some cases. Its frustrating on both sides TBH, because they are doing their best and all the folks I dealt with in Hampshire were great and very helpful. Its just they're overworked and understaffed, and renewals take priority (apparently anyway) over applications and variations. But to the end user it seems an inordinate amount of time is needed for even the simplest request, and its double irritating when they've just stuck all the fees up ostensibly to improve the process! I asked the Hampshire team for a date of when I should hear by and then followed up on that date when I hadnt, and then did the same thing with the next date and so on until my licence arrived. But I stuck the application in with them in February and it was granted in July... Definitely a long wait! No point in badgering them because they'll just stick you at the bottom of the pile or something, and getting BASC or someone else involved might get you a result but also might mean you end up staying at the bottom of the pile a bit longer next time round! Sadly we are a bit beholden to the whole process and I'd rather have them go "Oh yeah, I remember him, he was always polite and didnt badger us" when I stick my FAC application in next year, rather than "Oh god, him again.." hehe! robbiep
Handed my variation in to North Wales on the 21st of May and not heard a thing! Ditto, roughly end of May for me too, variation for a .308., not heard a peep out of them. Will be starting with the weekly phone calls soon. Was talking to a friend the other day, his tickets are up for renewal in January, so I told him to get them in within the next month, no matter what NWP say ! Well Rob I hope you get your certificate back soon mate. I have no 22lr ammo left now and I am on my last few primers so will be held up until it arrives. How the heck shooters are to run their hobby or sort out new permissions in realistic times is beyond me. Darran.
Les*1066
My last one from Cheshire was done in just under 2 weeks.
Whitebridges
My last one took 4 weeks. I always make a call to my FLO to sound him out and if he's OK with what i'm asking for then I send the paperwork in. This was for a paid for variation ( twenty quid). Four weeks is pretty reasonable given I was told not to expect a fast turnaround as they were tucked up with renewals. By the looks of things matters could be a lot worse! Write to the Firearms licencing manager, explaining that you NEED your certificate back pronto. If the variation has not been processed, then they can send you the old one back, and request it from you when the variation is ready. Redditch
My last variation took 4 1/2 months, and cost me 1286 acres of permissions, as I couldn't shoot there without that gun. And that was after BASC chased them up THREE times, each time being promised, it's "already in the post to you" Plod LIE, and that's a fact Variations and renewals take anywhere between TWO WEEKs and TWO YEARs here unfortunately. They have just increased the prices of certificates and variations, but doubt if it will make a difference, despite all their "give us double the money and we'll do it faster" speeches Edited August 18, 2015 by Redditch
hawkeye
The last variation i put in with Cleveland i dropped it of one morning and picked up next day less than 24 hours, It only takes me 10 minutes to get there so better than posting.. Mossyoak77
best thing you can do for variations if you know your local licensing dept is behind from what I've just experienced just ring your feo up and ask if they can come round to see you to and hand deliver it over to them if they are passing through or near your area. I needed to speak with my feo about a few things last week he came round same day handed my variation & cheque over to him and 4 days later turned up. jam1e
West Mercia Police. To add 3 different calibre rifles took 10 days, to having the FAC in my hands. A mistake was made, so I sent it back. I received the correctly worded FAC back in 7 days. Can't fault them.
Whitebridges
Refreshing to hear some top service on variations. Some constabularies are clearly delivering to a reasonable timeframe. Very good news. .....but then there are a others.
