pigeon controller
Following me entering the Xmas Jumper Compitition in the playpen I was challenged by dougall to shoot a one hundred bag with my jumper on??? Which I failed to do. Friday saw us on the bottle run to our farmers which takes us to our summer and winter farms so we see a good number of fields and hopefully pigeon. The one farm we have shot on for over thirty years and has just changed hands so we went to see the farmer who informed us that the birds were on his rape , now we had seen eighty on it about two weeks ago and waited till the farmer saw them before having a go . When we arrived at the field it had about two hundred on it all sitting in the trees and none joining . the area that they were concentrating on was a good walk with the gear, so we set out and splashed our way across the field to the far edge. The birds lifted and circled and came back in to the trees. We could only decoy the edge as the rest of the field was very tall so we set up ten on cradles and two on the magnet. The first shot lifted the birds and they went it was now 13.00 and we shot till 15.30 and finished picking up fiftyfive birds. As we were leaving the field a guy stopped us at the gate and told us the game shoot was out on Wednesday all over the land so thats why the birds left the field. Saturday saw us complete our bottle run and we had a call that the birds were hitting a specific area of one farm and could we come and sort them out. When we arrived at the farm we could see a good flock of birds on a steep bank tucked in behind old pine trees in the warm out of the rain and wind. So thats the place to shoot them . I ask the Farmer if I could drive the edge of the field and he said no due to it being part of the stewardship agreement . I think it would have been a near to death expirence to carry the gear across the large field , he did offer the quad , Result!!!!!. So we loaded it up and I had a play across the field in the tram lines to the required area to set up . just then the heavans opened and the field became a sea of mud . We used ten on spikes and two on the magnet and added birds as we shot them . We started shooting at12.00 and finished at 15.30 amd picked up seventyeight pigeons loaded the quad and drove back to the farm . The birds came back well in the dry times between the heavy showers but the strong wind and rain did not make it a comfortable day. I may be out before Chistmas but I will take the time at this point to wish all Pigeon Watch Members and viewers A very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Peaceful New Year. Don't forget to post your Xmas Jumper Pictures in the playpen

JDog
I see there are no other entries in either the pigeon shooting or Xmas jumper competition other than you and I. Good reports of your days out. What have the pigeons been eating other than rape?

Good reports of your days out. What have the pigeons been eating other than rape? Hi JDog , they had sloe's, hawthorns, acorns and ivy berries. The ivy berries were green not the usual black. Oh and some had rape in them.
