ElvisThePelvis
Hi We would love a dog, both as a family pet and to train as a gun dog, but Mrs is allergic to shedding dogs.. Would a labradoodle be a good bet? Any other suggestions? Thanks
tharsus
I have a lakeland, needs cut or stripped but i have never seen any hairs in the house, no idea if he is classed as non shedding though

Carman06
Not an Alaskan malamute, so much hair everywhere and not ideal gun dog either.
humperdingle
Been allergic to dogs as long as I can remember but we have had a Border Terrier for 3 years... He does shed, but doesn't affect my chest. Only get any effect when rough-playing and he scratches my skin etc.
cocker boy
No such thing exists. Dogs shed hair.
loriusgarrulus
http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/getting-a-dog-or-puppy/finding-the-right-dog/non-shedding-breeds-of-dog/ Kennel clubs list of dogs less likely to shed much. If someone is highly allergic though the non shedding will not be enough and very sensitive people will still get a reaction.

Mentalmac
Yorkshire Terrier - haha, doubt it would retrieve anything much though. Apparently Poodles can make ok gun dogs...
kent
Yorkshire Terrier - haha, doubt it would retrieve anything much though. Apparently Poodles can make ok gun dogs... The std poodle (big one) started out as a wildfowling dog. I think you might have more luck with training a lab though maybe even a PIG they are also said to be capable and with a great nose being basically pretty bald should suit just fine

K-B-T
Kerry blue terriers do not shed hair or cast their coats , poodles dont either labradoodles why pay good money for a crossbreed that is not guaranteed as to whether or not it will hold its coat , when theres pedigree dogs out there. and as for COCKER BOY saying that all dogs cast their coats and shed hair hes talking a load of rubbish

Surely you can't be saying that?
moondoggy
Are you saying a dog dies with the exact same coat it was born with ?. Surely you can't be saying that? Depends how old it is when it dies.

Daft money for them I think and waiting lists for puppy's! The problem with these fashionable mongrels is you never quite know what you are going to get. They seem to vary a lot between characteristics and not get an equal mix from the parents. Some seem to be more cocker and some more poo, your main issue will be if you get one with less poo then you might end up having to re home it. In this case I'd be looking more to a rescue dog/ older one than a puppy so that you can check it's not going to cause problems. Get it as a pet first and see about the shooting later on
