ilovemyheckler
Are you expected to tip the guys that work for the removal company and if so do you do it when they pack you up or unpack you at your new location?
AVB
I do both as they might be separate teams.

Not that I don't tip, but it's not as though the guys doing the work are just helping you out. It's their job and they are payed to do it the same as anyone else. Do you tip the checkout girl at tesco or the bus driver? I employ various tradesmen and although it's nice for them to get a tip from customers if they do a good job I wouldn't expect it from everyone. Not because they are tight or don't appreciate the service but because they have already payed. All that said I would make it known to the removal guys that you intend to tip for a good service and then they may be inclined to take extra care with your stuff. ilovemyheckler
Thanks guys. Any suggestions on what I should tip? Do I give to each individual or the guy in charge on the day? There will be two teams due to the distance

Vince Green
My mate that I work with used to run a removals company. It must be the worst job in the world. Stressed customers from hell, claims for all sorts of damage, no parking, everybody wants a 'best price' then adds lots of stuff on the day. give em a few bob
AVB
Thanks guys. Any suggestions on what I should tip? Do I give to each individual or the guy in charge on the day? There will be two teams due to the distance I have done two moves in the past 9 months. The guys worked hard and I tipped £20 each person on each occasion i.e £20/person for packing & loading, £20/person for unloading. I gave it to the 'guvnor' on each occasion for distribution. I heard him say to the the guys that I had given a decent tip and they all thanked me. I don't know if that was too much or too little but I felt comfortable with it and they appreciated it. shaun4860
Pay what you're comfortable with, I have a niece that refuses to tip anything, Gets my goat as she always says "I'm my fathers daughter", he is a right tight **** as well
AVB
When I moved in India a few years ago I tipped the guys doing the move the equivalent of £10 each as they worked their socks off in hot conditions. The were ecstatic as it was the equivalent of a weeks wages. The boss, who did **** all, was furious that I gave it direct to them. He would have pocketed the lot. Edd No you wouldn't tip the tesco people or a bus driver as they don't do nothing really do they to help you,or are you the type at the checkout that want help packing your bags so they do it for you.as I'm dam sure I don't as they can't even do that properly and does the bus driver get off his fat **** and help you in No.so there is a difference and the main one is yes you have paid for them to carry your stuff in and out of the wagon.but when you haven't packed all you gear and they do some of that for you as some customer don't have everything ready like they are supposed to have the answer to your question for the lads going out there way to do it for you is YES tip them as it is much appreciated. Why?? they are just doing their job We don't give the teacher a present at all why should you for them only working what 18wks of the year then teacher training, why give them for doing half a job.they should be qualified for the job from day 1 like they used to be when we were younger so why hire if they are only part trained then have to shut the school down for training days.so that a stupid comment tipping then for doing nowt. foxshooter69
Moving is a stressful time, if the the lads that are doing the hard work are courteous and you can have a laugh and a good craic with them, it makes the day go easy and destresses you then yes, give them a tip it is well worth it. I'm not saying you have to tip but when they go that bit extra as I have said when they don't have to it is a perk of the job,you don't have to give them the same amount each but a £10-20 isn't out the way for a good job.but like I say you would sit back at tescos when they say do you want a hand with your packing and just let them would you ? Shame you can't wait till you've unpacked it and found what they have broken...... Some people pack things broken so they can get a claim in for free.and yes it does happen
