Hamster
Nothing wrong with the "substance", it is down to how some idiots use it! Nothing wrong with a substance you can buy over the counter which explodes with the forces seen on that video when struck by a bullet from a distance ? So in effect you're saying explosives should be freely available ?
figgy
Is Tannerite made by a company or home made from the substances? There are many forms of explosive freely available in this country. It's what the idiots do with it and we will never be able to plan for stupid. Shooting Gas canisters and such is just as foolish it don't stop people. Edited March 26, 2016 by figgy

TIGHTCHOKE
Made by a company, sold in two parts and mixed by the individual when it becomes sensitive to shock. Edited March 26, 2016 by TIGHTCHOKE

So in effect you're saying explosives should be freely available ? The substance is a two part kit sold as a target marker and used for some other uses. The manufacturer recommends it is only used in amounts up to a ib. Others buy and stockpile it, that is allowed in the US. Several people have been maimed and even killed, but America is the land of the free. Edited March 26, 2016 by TIGHTCHOKE

bluesj
So there IS something wrong with the free availability of this substance. Only in the same way that air rifles are freely available
Oxfordshooter
We've all mucked about with crow-bangers when young I'm sure. If this stuff had been available to us then I'm sure we'd have mucked about with this too, although the man in the video looks old enough to know better so it serves him right, I bet it's taught him a lesson. Scully
So there IS something wrong with the free availability of this substance. I'm not sure if it's 'free' as such, but legally available, as are firearms. It's down to the individual as to how it is used.

Hamster
Only in the same way that air rifles are freely available I was fully expecting someone to come back with guns , but to compare it to air guns is absolutely laughable. If you watch the video the substance is legal and freely available to buy and shoot at in order to make loud noises with true you have to allow for some American mindsets being a tad shotaway but only a 5 year old could fail to foresee the trouble ahead when these are used for entertainment and the thought of them getting into the wrong hands doesn't even bear thinking about. The footage shows cars being ripped apart in an instant, only the HW80 can be tuned to pack that kind of punch.

So in effect you're saying explosives should be freely available ? How about a gallon of petrol in a steel can, or a jerry can full ? Or gas cylinders ?, 5 gallons of thinners ? They all go with a bang. just one can of easy start will empty a 45 gallon fire bucket in milliseconds (ask how I know). I've seen folk empty fireworks and 12 gauge cartridges just to get the explosives. If you want them they're out there, it's just most folk aren't stupid enough to blow themselves up, so we don't want (nor need) nannying thank you. Is no problem to buy 2 substances to mix together to make a big bang, you can do so by just going to a supermarket. The wrong hands wouldn't need this stuff, they can get pretty much anything they need and a lot more effective than this.
Benthejockey
Tannerite is just Nitrogen oxide, nitrogen fertiliser for example, and aluminium powder 25p and £10 a kg respectively.
