marsh man
Tonight I finished off the last pair of Pinkfoot breasts I had in the freezer , when I say finished off what I should have said they nearly finished me off , to say I didn't enjoy them would put it mildly , they were strong , didn't taste the same as when they are fresh and on top of that , somehow it just didn't feel right eating a wild goose , or come to that any game in the early summer . I have already made my mind up that next season I am not going to put any geese in the freezer to eat at a later date , if I don't need one or any one I know don't need one then the simple solution is I will stop shooting them till I need one or one of my friends want one. all sorted. So how many of you guys out there REALLY enjoy eating game well out of season ??
ShootingEgg
I still have pheasant from last season and will happily eat it, also have some duck breast in the freezer.. Wouldn't want to waste it.. I agree though, when my freezer is full I dont shoot unless someone asks or I need more
kent
Unless it's vac packed 3 months max imo. I generally shoot what I can use quick rather than try and fill my freezers.
secretagentmole
I don't mind eating pigeon whenever I can get it or get it out the freezer, got 3 pheasants enjoying the cold as well, might try one barbecued and one pulled....
Psyxologos
Nothing wrong with eating what you have shot when you like. I always have some game in the freezer for when I fancy something different.
storm in a teacup
I'm BBQing some pheasant tomorrow and I jerky goose breast as I need them from frozen. Not noticed any difference.
norfolk dumpling
Have had pheasant curry on several occasions recently - lovely and just that extra bit tastier than chicken. Also working our way through stock of venison. Can't see what ths issue is eating frozen game providing the base material was ok when shot. motty
I have a huge amount of duck and goose meat to get through. I'm going to eat some goose tonight. If I don't start using it up, the season will be upon us and I will have no room for fresh meat.

You are right there isn't a issue eating frozen game or any thing else frozen come to that , weather it is just me or do other people find that frozen game is alright if eaten within a reasonable time of it being frozen in the first place , when you talk about months rather than weeks then to me there is a noticeable difference in the taste . old'un
Game or any dressed meat that as been in the freezer for months gets frost burnt and it does change the taste, I found that if you freeze it with fur or feather on it seems to keep better. Aled
One pheasant left in the deep freeze, like the curry idea! Cheers Aled
Blackpowder
If you cannot vacum pack, double wrap in clingfilm and store in ziplock freezer bags gives extended storage life. Blackpowder
nobbyathome
any meat put in the freezer will breakdown in taste over time as the ice crystalises and it burns the meat the better you wrap it the longer it takes to break down as blackpowder said wrap well in clingfilm the more the better and use sealed freezerbags
clakk
Pheasant makes great Fahitas ,and cooked lasts an age in the freezer ,freezing also seems to deepen the flavour after cooking

figgy
Nope I prefer it in season. A friend is going to a local bistro and said he is having the venison, too much for me in the warm weather much prefer fish dishes in summer.
