HunterFarmer
Are Eley Pigeon Select any good of a cartridge. They are 30g 6. Also what's a normal distance to be shooting birds at with these cartridges
bruno22rf
I bought a couple of boxes last week and spent most of Friday morning decoying - didn't see one pigeon so I'm guessing they are rubbish

belly47
I bought a slab a while ago and only have a few left and have noticed no difference compared to my usual clear pigeon 32g. It's easy when you miss one to think it's the cartridge to blame, but it rarely, if ever is, down to the cartridge. I've also tried using 7.5s just recently when they are decoying well over the pattern and they kill just as clean.

bluesj
I was given a load some time ago, not the best and i found that through 1/2 choke or less the pattern was iffy at best full and 3/4 choke they are ok
Missed pigeon
I didn't get on very well with them but I'm not the best of shots , if you watch the shooting show the man on there shoots hundreds of pigeons with them so must be good a cartridge just think like most cartridges you need to pattern test and see what's best for you and your gun

HunterFarmer
We were out at the pigeons last week and we were using 32 and 30g 6's and they were taking loads of feathers out of the birds but not dropping them any reason why this is happening? Thanks
motty
Maybe you were shooting the pigeons too far out. It could have been you weren't accurate enough.
HunterFarmer
Probably was as we are only newbies!
Guest stevo
Get yourself a nice fast 7.5 clay shell with 4-5% Ant. An Oz or 24 gram will do a crack job 👍
kennett
Pigeon Selects are a good cartridge , used a slab earlier this summer and had some good kills. As for your question hunterfarmer, as motty said it could be range, practice guessing range on fixed objects and then pace it out. If your pattern is too far out to start with, you will be pushing the range on 2nd shots.

Caravanman
Rc cartridges are all you need I won't use anything else Dave +1. I've gone back to RC 2 28g 6 (5.5 UK) cracking cartridges.
marsh man
Rc cartridges are all you need I won't use anything else Dave In most cases , poor cartridge performance is down to the person pulling the trigger , find a cartridge you like and stick to it , then if your having a off day you will know it is you and not the cartridge. Rc are very good cartridges , been about for a while now and are standing the test of time .

Thanks If you are asking that I suggest to be fair to your quarry you go and get a couple of lessons at a shooting school, it will be money well spent. fortune
As above It's simple, you put the lead on the target and it will do the job. Feathering is usually a bit behind. if you hit em up the front end they usually drop em. make sure that you can shoot or you will blame the cartridge > or the gun > or anything except yourself.
