TIGHTCHOKE
Have you seen the one that won what a pile of ****. It's NOT that GOOD! Once again the luvvies are being lauded and if you speak up and say it's all carp you get accused of not understanding what the artist was trying to do. Truly a case of the Emperors new clothes! guzzicat
Yes Kings new suit of clothes,"If you cannot see the art in this you are lacking" anybody else see the childish daubs of L.S.Lowery for what they are?
figgy
Id suggest anyone who does understand what the artist was trying to do needs locking up. Never seen such a pile of rubbish passed off as art in long time.
Old Boggy
Id suggest anyone who does understand what the artist was trying to do needs locking up. Never seen such a pile of rubbish passed off as art in long time. Totally agree, but Tracy Emin's unmade bed a couple of years ago came pretty close to this years pile of carp. Also agree with Chris Bb that Turner would be very restless in his grave particularly at some of the 'modern' exhibitions that they have at the Turner Gallery in Margate. To quote Catherine Tate in her Grandma sketch "What a pile of ****"
Penelope
Caught her acceptance speak on R4 last night, a grade A luvvie. It's NOT that GOOD! wascal
I prefer the "Turnip Prize" http://metro.co.uk/2016/12/06/turnip-prize-won-by-a-black-pole-named-pole-dark-6304278/ from the judge - ‘I am delighted with the lack of effort taken to create this work,’
TIGHTCHOKE
Yes that is MUCH better!

guzzicat
I was amazed the first time I saw the Temeraire painting "in the flesh",,the sheer size, the other surprise was Nelsons uniform, the lack of size.

Mentalmac
It's like that eejit who won because he turned the lights off and on loads of times and then come in and everyone in the audience was like "erm..." But he probably said "there you go, that was it" Next thing, they all don't want to be seen to 'not get it' so they started making it up and he won. Like that mate everyone has who's a real 'wine connoisseur' who can taste almondy strawberry teacake in a glass of vino. old man
Artists can probably get a grant of some sort to help them enter? Sadly just gives an insight of general intelligence in a modern age?

nagantino
There was a great cartoon when the bricks was exhibited. It showed 2 suited experts looking at the bricks, one says to the other "It's a fake". Time Team did an episode on the whereabouts of the Fighting Temeraire and traced it to a muddy river bank. It had been used as a hulk or some sort of coastal lookout. A few years ago we drove up to Derry to see the Turner Prize exhibition. We were having a laugh around a blank part of the room "Now this I like " sort of thing. It was an entry in the Competition!!!!! If it had won the artist would have got a check for whatever it is K10 or something for.........nothing. Great weekends drinking though.
