TaxiDriver
I've been given a 5ltre 'mini keg' by my neighbour It's not something I've drunk before so have no idea if it's best served chilled ? Room temperature ? Or, as it says it's a fine ale, does this mean warm, flat and treacle like ? I'd rather not open it and find flat, dark and treacle like then I don't like it and waste the rest of it.

TIGHTCHOKE
Just below room temperature would be correct.
Bryn
Was drinking this last night just left bottles outside back door so we're cold but not too cold, nice drink. Lidl have the bottles for £1.25 buy one and see if you like it.
B25Modelman
Terrible beer but like all ales should be at 12c when served.
TIGHTCHOKE
Here is a quaote from a discussion on another forum about serving beer. "Chilling a beer reduces the flavour, it's a bad thing to do if you want to taste what you're drinking. Why do you think that manufactured, chemical ridden **** like Magners, Stella, Fosters etc is sold chilled practically to freezing point? It's to hide the disgusting taste"! You should be able to work out what to do with the guidance above! If not save the unopened container for me and I will buy you something worthy of being chilled in return. CharlieT
If not save the unopened container for me and I will buy you something worthy of being chilled in return. Me matt
As already said- keep it outside, forget what the purists say 😬
TaxiDriver
I'm going to keep it on the patio I don't know if I'll like it, but by my reckoning there's 8.8 pints in there so I'll persevere By about pint 2 or 3 it'll either have grown on me, OR, I'll be beyond caring Edited December 17, 2016 by TaxiDriver
Zapp
It's an ok beer. Strictly speaking it'll shouldn't be chilled but it's one of the ones that doesn't suffer too awfully for it.

TaxiDriver
Omg I remember those Party7 mini barrels. Re the Old Speckled Hen, Would it be sacrilege to have some lemonade in it (Just to lighten the colour and give it a bit of fizz like)

the hitman
Nothing wrong with old speckled hen, I have seen the 5ltr keg in Iceland for £13.99. We have a sun room/ winter walk-in chill, and that's where it will be going. The keg recommends drink within 3 days of opening, that might be a struggle. Hitman. Paddy Galore!
talking of decent beer but going off the topic a bit, where can I find Brooklyn lager or anything brewdog by the case? the super markets love to sell the stuff by the bottle at a humongous profit because it's supposedly a craft ale, but I really would like a case or two of the stuff without having to get a 2nd mortgage. White Rabbit
As someone who drinks Hen in a near professional capacity. A word of advice. If you open one of those kegs then finish it that day. I left one til the following night and it went totally flat. Broke my heart! P.s,Drink cold but not chilled. Ollieollie
You can buy Adnams Ghost Ship in a small keg the same as this, thin ice! Once you pop and all that
BreweryGrunt
If you close the valve on the top of the keg in between pouring a pint from it, it should last longer without going flat as quickly.
