washerboy
I have the chance of taking my gun on fox drive in a few weeks, the trouble is I can't find any cartridges in 70mm that are large enough shot i.e 1 or 3 and larger. I have tried several places in S****horpe and Doncaster non stock them . Question is would my gamebore 34g size 5 be good enough or are they just too small. matone
4`s at a pinch but 36gr No 3 are optimal.
motty
As with any of these questions, range is the all important factor. Your cartridges may be fine, but I would advise side on shots only.
HW95J
Gamebore Buffalo are 70mm I think and come in larger shot sizes up to BB or SG.
motty
SG is a poor choice for shooting foxes.
foxbuster
SG is a poor choice for shooting foxes. Agree, far too large 'gaps' in the spread, unless very close-then devastating! 50grms of bb is my preference.
aga man
The gunroom at holme on spalding moor will probably have some alphamax on the shelf if you are not too far away. It wouldn't bother me using 34gm 5 on bolting foxes, just maybe choke up a bit. Will kill a fox up 30yds no problem.
washerboy
I'm in Thorne so I can try Holme upon spalding moor. Is it near the bowls shop and the Chinese takeaway?
aga man
I'm in Thorne so I can try Holme upon spalding moor. Is it near the bowls shop and the Chinese takeaway? It is what used to be the pub, maybe ring them first to make sure they have some. Great shop and staff http://www.thegun-room.co.uk/

wymberley
If it's your first one, enjoy the day, but perhaps a word of caution. Sometimes these are widely advertised - either formally or by word of mouth - and can attract various types of 'shooter'. Attended one and after the first drive the guys were walking to the next and had broken up into two groups. From the other, there was a shot and we turned in time to see someone picking up his gun. How on earth nobody fell down dead I'll never know. We should have left at that point. Towards the end of that second drive, the three of us (we'd also never been on one before) were standing Guns when there were three shouts, "fox!", " no hare", "don't shoot". Too late, I took it in the feet. At that point we did leave, albeit with me limping badly supported by my mates.

HW95J
SG is a poor choice for shooting foxes. Just to clarify (if that was directed at my post) I wasn't suggesting that he use SG, just that I think they make that cartridge in sizes going up to that. i.e 1-3 are probably in the range as well. matone
After suggesting 36gr #3 ,I shot a good sized vixen at decent range with Cheddite Royal Drive 32gr #6 (5.5) this afternoon !
