fortune
We have been with BT for ever and had a good deal with them, but recently the net access has been floating in and out occasionally and the wife has gotten the hump with it affecting her game sessions (don't ask). I noticed that the monthly DD had rissen dramatically. Time for a change. Got son in law involved as he loves negotiating. Super deal with Vodafone arranged with guaranteed speed of 71mps. This evening I contacted them because service is due to start in two days time and the new router isn't here and there has been no word about it. What a task that is. After a long time I managed to speak to a human being who informed me that the contract had been cancelled because BT would not give up my number!? It seems to have escaped their system that I am expecting to change on Monday and that I haven't been informed that this isn't going to happen. The whole operation from trying to call them to knowing what they are talking about is a complete shambles. It looks like we are going to have another look round at this again and have a fresh start. I was really surprised by the rubbish system that they are using. Perhaps in was a close call mis. I don't have any confidence in the organisation at all. clakk
BT are beyond carp and smelly stuff for letting you leave had to threaten to sue them to get gone as they started calling us all times of the day and night to keep <annoy the hell out of us>us on their system .It is a stupidity the best rated provider is Plusnet with UK call centres and they are owned by-----------BT 1 of the worst go figure with their Indian call centres . Vodafraud i wouldnt touch they fleeced me years ago £25 a month contract 1000 minutes ,my average bill £55 but i never used more than 200 minutes a month and when i complained and said cancel your in breach of CONtract the said they,d sell my contract to a debt collection agency and i would be blacklisted . If thats customer service im a cheese sandwich

Whitebridges
Can't fault Sky. It's worked flawlessly since we had it put in about four years ago.
clakk
That,s who we are with now ,installed by B.T but provided by Sky 72 meg fibre touch wood no problems at all ,wouldnt go near BT themselves who want £ more a month than Sky charge anyway
kingo15
If you can get virgin that would be my first choice for broadband. After that just see what the best deal you can get is as they will all use the same exchange as bt and its just a matter getting the best deal. fortune
It doesn't look like we can get virgin in this area. The comparison sites list,>>> BT, Sky, origin? John Lewis, talk talk, EE and plusnet. Vodafone have a good deal but the organisation of our transfer is a complete shambles. I can't believe that BT won't hand our phone number over to Vodafone and I don't understand how Vodafone have just cancelled our order without letting us know. I am concerned that come Monday we may be strung out without any provider and worse loose our telephone number which we have had for about thirty-five years. I am going to leave this to the son in law because he just loves negotiating and haggling with these sorts of things. He is like a pig in ****. I have difficulty in understanding some of the people who are online because of the regional accents and the speed at which they talk. I know that they are under load to sell and to get onto the next customer but it isn't easy. I looked at various provider reviews on trustpilot and all of the providers seem to be a load of rubbish in regard to the problems that customers have had with all of them. fortune
Look on virgin media and put your post code in it'll let you know if it's available in your area.Did that and they aren't available in this postcode area.Once you are connected I don't think that there are real problems. The problems seem to arise either joining or leaving. Total disaster comes to mind. None of the providers seem to have got their act together in this respect. al4x
The easiest option for you is to get talking to BT eventually you hit the right customer retention dept who have the good deals. We pay something like £30 a month, phone, evening & weekend calls, TV and unlimited fibre broadband. They now have 2 year deals so it saves you re negotiating each year. If you don't have virgin then everyone else will use your current line so you might as well deal with the organ grinder rather than the monkey. You will still have everything if BT rejected the transfer, you would need to ask why but may be at the Vodafone end however you might need to put in another transfer to get the best deals
whitehackle
iv had sky, they are good but expensive by the time you have the TV. iv had talk talk, Internet hit and miss , and the TV was nearly unwatchable! Eyefor
We have two separate Plusnet lines in the same house and I would highly recommend them as an ISP. Strangely excellent customer service (seeing as they are part owned by BT) and they can be slow to get through to at busy times (although it is an 0800 number) but you end up speaking to someone in Yorkshire who has been taught customer service. No serious issues for 10 years (or more).
arm3000gt
A lot of people slate TalkTalk but I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I was with BT but changed because of the abysmal customer service and the ever increasing cost. BT flatly refused to investigate a line problem (intermittent telephone and internet drop out) for weeks. Changed to TalkTalk, explained the problem within two days they sent..... a BT engineer round to fix problem. Bit of digging and cable laying later problem fixed. I would probably have still been a BT customer if they had bothered to come out and investigate the problem. Though I suppose there is only so much someone in an call centre 3000 miles away with only a rudimentary grasp of English can do to fix a problem. I have to laugh at there add they say if you have a problem you will always get to speak to person in Yourkshire but what they do not tell you is he or she may live in Yourkshire but they still come from pakistan. :whistling:

JohnfromUK
I have dealt with Vodafone on mobiles - and very hard to get hold of anyone if you have a problem. However - when I left they were on the phone daily trying to get me back! I didn't like dealing with them. I have (against the trend it may be) had good service from BT. Yes, they do try and put it up at the end of the contract period, but I rang them (call centre in the UK), told them what they had offered wasn't good enough for me to stay - and got another reasonable deal by telling them that I would leave for someone else's 'introductory deal' and that I hated the system that gave big incentives to join, but penalised loyal customers. They offered me a reasonable deal (much better than the original offer) and I have remained with them. They do combined deals on home line, mobile and internet that I found quite competitive. As far as I can tell, they have two call centres (or maybe more?). If you get the one in India - you have a bad experience. If you get the UK one - some operators at least - are helpful. Like many - I can't get Virgin.

Couldn't have been more helpful.

Couldn't have been more helpful. Me and the wife had crazy conversations such as. Me: My telephone keeps dropping out Call centre: Can you call us on your landline so we can verify who is calling Me: I'm calling on my mobile because the landline drops out all the time. I can't call you. Call centre: I'll do a line check.......... It's fine. Me: No I wouldn't be calling you if it was all fine would I. Call centre: Line check is fine. Unplug your phone and internet and rest everything. It might me a minor problem in the network. Me: I've done that. Call Centre: Can you do it again and call back. Me: Fine Me: I'm calling back. My telephone keeps dropping out. Call centre: I'll do a line check. Me: We've done this before. Call centre: The line seems fine. Me: arrrrhhhh!!!!!!!! They said on a number of occasions an engineer had been to check the line. Funny that no one ever came to my house to check anything and the fault persisted. It was finally diagnosed when a physical person from BT but sent via TalkTalk came to the house. The line from the green box to my house was goosed. ph5172
Talk Talk are a complete waste of time, we had them as they had a good deal on their all in package and it came with their freeview box (that is actually quite good) We went from Sky on the Monday and Tuesday the first day with TT our Internet speed was rubbish, it may take some time to settle down while we do line tests, a week later it was no better, it must be your line or a slow exchange, it was fine with BT no no its defiantly your line. They got the heave ho a week later when luckily they put up their prices and gave the option to cancel, went back to Sky and funnily enough all speed restored and no issues!! In all fairness the Freeview box was as good as the HUMAX ones and the TT forum UK reps were easier to communicate with than the call center in Lahore and you often achieved more by putting on a forum post and waiting 12 hours for them to message you back
fortune
Well, this morning son in law came back in before he goes abroad again to try and resolve what is going on and to try to verify that we weren't going to end up with no provider and loose our number that we have had for years. BT weren't Very forthcoming or helpful but we did find out that the line was ok,but that they couldn't get anywhere near the price or package that we had been offered. So it was back to Vodafone. This time we managed to talk to someone who appeared to have a grip on the situation. Previously our order had been cancelled because it had been written as a new line instead of taking over an existing line. After a bit of sorting out we have hopefully reset our order which is 76mb speed, anytime calls, call display, cal waiting, free calls to mobiles and a new router for £41 a month. This is £20 a month better than BT can do.xnow all we have to hope for is that it all pans out and doesn't go out of control. After having a read up on the different providers, they are all as good or bad as each other.
sandspider
Plusnet used to be good, but not after the BT take over. Prices increased and internet speed and customer service decreased. Phone line and broadband kept going down, they didn't want to fix it saying I'd be charged if an engineer came out and it was my equipment etc. (It wasn't). I had to chase them constantly to get them even to look at my support cases. Eventually two or three different engineers (openreach) came out and did make things better, but didn't fix the problem. I moved house, and plusnet stung me £30 to move as I wouldn't have plusnet again at the new house.
