Why do I bother

For the first time we are in a positon to be able to get a new or nearly new car instead of just getting what fits the budget.

Mine is ok, knock the mud off it and it still looks ok from a distance when turning up to a customer. I suggested we replace the Mrs's (mk4 golf diesel). She has never had much to do with picking her cars I've always turned up with the best I could find for the money so this time I said its down to her to choose what she would like.

Things went well to start with,

Her "I don't want to spend the money on a new!".

Me "okay then go for something a couple of years old?"

Her "and I want something smaller and red!"

Me " okay! And?"

Her " And what?"

Can save a lot of money having a second hand car that’s not been used much.

What’s your budget?

Budgets not the problem just for a change :) Mind you if the Mrs gets a cheaper car there will be more left for mine later.

So far the short list is very long. Ford Ka or fiesta, vw polo or up, corsa or adam, fiat 500, seat whatever it is, 107 or 108 Toyota aygo. Think that about covers it

Just wondered what’s your budget as the cost of a KA is going to be very different from a top of the range car that’s small and red.

Its just handy to have a budget to know what you can get, then go from there.

Got 15k that should cover most small cars more but realistically as she doesn't what to buy new it'll be about half that  but that's not the problem its getting her to decide what extras she wants and what to look at first.

Think it will end up with her liking the look of something and me finding a red one with a few useful extras

My missus loves her Citroen DS3 and i must admit, on the very occasional time i drive it, i quite like it too.

My choice would fiesta or polo not so keen on the funky styling or interior on some but as its not going to be my car that doesn't mater

I bought my ex a focus in 2010 for £21k list but paid £15k

she left me 2 years later and it dropped to £6500 :/ .

for the second owner it made it a bargain

ive bought my awesome other half a fiesta at 4 1/2years old for £5k from a dealer and 2 years later it’s been great. 48-55 mpg around town and 60-70mpg on a motorway. It’s a zetec with 1.6d , air con etc.

I don’t think you can go wrong with a second hand ford. They loose to much money in the first years.

My mum picks cars by the colour. Her 4 series is 200bhp and she doesn’t realise :/ but see likes it because it’s red

Money no object small used car in red = Audi A1.

Slightly less money in red. Fiesta ecoboost or mini Cooper s.

Small red and a hoot to drive vw up. Skoda citigo, seat mii. All these last 3 in manual avoid the auto.

Anything small and French is poor atm.

Fiat 500 feels like you're in a crisp packet, hate to have an accident in one!

Take her to a Alpha Romeo garage most women love their cars and they look great in red.

My wife loves the new Ferrari engined Qaudrifoglio in the deep red metallic paint also likes the Stelvio 4x4 same engine and spec.  Not because of the engine just likes how that sporty one looks.

The guilietta is a nice car and not too big, a hatch back and practicle but looks nicer than most others on the road.
