Wonderful gun dogs. As someone who has two gsps I also do not recommend them as family pets. The energy and drive of these dogs is remarkable. these working dogs must have a job to do to be happy.

I fully agree, I have my bitches spayed as I worry about finding suitable working homes for what could potentially be a dozen pups.

Plan ahead, not many working breeders about!

In my opinion they have to be worked - ideally on the moor - they need the mental stimulation of finding game, holding point, steadiness then retrieve. They can run all day and still have energy.

We decided to give it a miss this year due to over inflated prices due to lock down after talking to the owners club

Yes the shooting is going well. I haven’t put pictures from most of the trips, only if I remember. I was very pleased with my first two shots, a gun I haven’t picked up for 6 months, pitch black and two rocketing wigeon on the deck. The less said about my subsequent shooting ratio the better. But proves to me that if a gun fits you don’t need to practice it. You couldn’t see the end of the barrel, let alone the bead etc.

Why don't they make good pets mate?

They do, but they require lots of space to enjoy life, they just need someone who understands the way a viszla thinks and that is why initially I said , before buying one have long talks with someone who has viszlas and works them.

Puts it in a nutshell and says it better than I did.

Lovely to see how strong your dogs are, I love seeing that healthy muscular frame in dogs like that. There's a guy I see walking his weimaranar on the same loop every day and while it walks well on the lead, it's pretty lardy looking and barrel shaped, he daren't let it off a lead where he walks it as right across the road is a game shooting estate and the area is teeming with pheasants and rabbits!

Good for you, although you have now drawn attention to your own activities which may not have been your intention.

In the meantime I will continue to show my appreciation of those posting of their exploits.
