R.I.P. Alan . I used to occasionally bump into Alan there too Tony..........on one particular occasion, I recall another acquaintance of Alan’s, Barry F who, whilst busily frying up sausages for their breakfast, laughingly quipped “if you shake hands with Alan, best you count your fingers afterwards” always stuck in my mind! lol! RIP Alan

RIP Alan I knew Alan very well and had a lot of dealings with him, he would always try and get another shilling out of you, but he was a character that will be missed. He is another of the wildfowlers, that will be remembered for his gunsmith abilities , his keenness on shooting mainly geese, although Alan was a first class clay shot .You either loved or hated Alan, but l raised a glass to him on Monday when I was told. RIP Alan.

Gordon R
He was a decent clay shot. I held the record score at Overton Gun Club, for some time - 29/30. Alan was the first person to straight it. The late Jim Stafford never scored more than 27/30 there, so it wasn't easy.
Rookandrabbit
Very sad to read about this. I went to Alan’s Workshop/ home several times he made black powder 10 bore cartridges and took time to answer my stupid questions. His place was an Aladdin’s Cave of goodies but his knowledge and experience was amazing. Glass raised ! RIP Alan.
mudpatten
I`ve only just become aware of this. Had many a discussion over the years with him about punt guns. A real character who`ll be much missed. Some examples of his work as a tribute to his skill as a gunmaker:
derbyduck
thanks for sharing that Nick , I wonder how long it will take for the shooter to lose the pre shot Flinch ? I know it's taken me a long time ! and the poor soul who browned the sitters it's a wonder he's not in traction LOL.
