( i only use fibre ) in plastics they are £100 per 1000 Sounds a bargin to me but are they any good??
Ferret Master
Most people use the fibres at my shoot and seem do to OK with them. FM
Floating Chamber
'There are no bad cartridges - some are just better than others.' Nowt wrong with Eley First if you put your tubes in the right place. Amazing how some users of Black Gold look down at you though and then disappear when they miss miserably! I helped win the shield at our club with homeloads and home made shot - second highest score. There's too much cartridge snobbery about; doesn't matter what 'clothes' they are wearing, they'll still kill you!
sheene7
me and my mates have shot a fair amount of them ( about 3000), i had one that didn't fire a few weeks ago, other than that they seem ok. Tried gamebore whitegold the other week and to be honest i didn't really notice any difference.

EvoCars
i had one missfire once, smouldering round the detinator but never set off properly, could of been iffy or maybe damp in the clay grounds ammo shed
ph5172
I think i will be investing in some then!!! And they appear to be the cheapest fibre wad on the market that i can find. And as the old man pointed out, yes you could spend an extra £40 on some 'brilliant' carts but if you buy the firsts you can have an 150 clays!!!!!! (good theory im thinking!) Zapp
Neither I nor anyone I know is a good enough shot for the cartridge type to make a real difference. As long as its fibre wad, and doesnt require dynamite to remove the residue from the barrels, I buy the cheapest I can get, and all in 8's for clays. starlight32
I use eley first fibre all time. My local price is 108 as thousand which is good value but that price will definately be going up soon!!!!!!!!
ph5172
Eley First have just gone up to £121.50 per 1000 - If you can get them at the old price stock up!!!

ZB Well said It cracks me up when I see "average" shots twittering on about this cartridge or that cartridge. I agree with you, it doesn't make a blind bit of difference unless you're championship material, and then the difference is marginal, but at that level, marginal can make the difference between winning and losing. Suffolk shooter
I don't think I have ever used Eley First in Fibre, but I would recommend the whole ELey range to anyone, other than the Grand Prix Steel. I use ELEY first or Olympic Blue for all my Clay shooting, 28 gm plastic wads, in 7.5's, 8's and 9's. ELEY HB 32gm for Pigeon in 6's fibre wad and ELEY VIP fibre in either 30 or 32gm 6's for game. Other than D & J, I don't know of anything else as Cheap although I believe SAGA are about the same cost. I tried a couple of these yesterday pigeon shooting, and found no real difference other than when I ejected them the state of the barrels beggered belief, they were as dirty as hell. No felt recoil difference, couldn't comment on the hitting power though as I missed with both barrels at the rook I was aiming for  SS

It is all about confidence and consistency, It doesn't matter what cartridge you use or how expensive it is. You need to be happy with it and that when YOU pull the trigger it is going to fire and put the shot where you want it to be. I have never patterned a shotgun in my life so I wouldn't know if the cartridge I am using patterns well, all I know is the combination of my Blaser, Express World Cup cartridges and 1/4 chokes break most clays I fire at. njc110381
I pay a little extra for Gamebore white gold fibre, but I find the recoil quite gentle so that's the only reason. I don't hit any more with them than I do with clubs Saga plas wads
Mungler
I shoot Eley First's all the time now 28g No8 plaswad, now that just about all other carts are just too expensive for your run of the mill clay bashing. If I could offer any advice it would be don't buy D&Js. I know they work for some people but I have never had a cartridge other than a D&J misfire on me (and I have had about half a dozen D&Js do it). For the same money per thousand, give or take the price of a packet of ciggies you can get Eley Firsts.
garyb
I agree with Sir Mungler. They are a good budget shell, and well worth the extra on top of those Dirty Jammers
Cushat
Does no one else have a problem with Eley firsts and lead fouling? Last lot I had left a fair proportion of the shot within the barrels!! Haven't used them since
njc110381
The worst shells I've ever used regarding fouling are D&J. I scubbed my tubes for ages and still couldn't get all the crud out, in the end I shot it out with another make of shell! I've used Eley Olympic trap a lot and they were good, but have no idea about Firsts. I may buy some next time I run out.
Gordon R
Eley Olympics are £99 per 1000 at Kelbrook. Nice clean shell. Trying some Maionchi - same price - haven't used them in 20 years. They used to be top flight.
squodged
Eley First are they any good. I can get them £107 per 1000 in fibre. ( i only use fibre ) in plastics they are £100 per 1000 Sounds a bargin to me but are they any good?? I've recently shot over 200 of these little fibre beauties in 7.5 & 8 and to be honest they worked fine for me. My usual cartridge is Eley Olympic 7.5 plastic. Last month I treated myself to 250 Express Super Comp at £36 and to be perfectly honest the only difference i could see was that the Express kicked a lot more. I've shot Diana Trap 7.5, Gamebore Blue Diamond 9's, D&J 9s in Plastic and Fibre. But for some reason my head says keep with Eley's!
webber
I've shot a few thousand Eley First in fibre wad, they are fine for me. The worst cartridge that I have shot were the D&J, they did the job, but some were akin to fireworks. webber
njc110381
I always use D&J never had a problem "o" 1 miss fire sent it back to them got a nice letter back and 2xboxes free carnt be bad that as for cleaning i use hoopers nO 9 LEAVE IT 5 MINS clean as a whistle I've got to admit I never had one misfire in the 500 I bought, but I wish I'd have asked you before I started trying to clean the gun I couldn't find anything to get the muck off the forcing cones! tosspot
Bought 250 "Firsts" off of Mungler at the weekend (bit steep at £42 but apparently they were special gold and platinum ones. ) Shot well, little recoil broke as many clays as normal didn't find them dirty, will shoot them again
