417km/h motorway drive

I know that there is no speed limit along that stretch, but surely, 260mph is taking a wee bit of a liberty with that! I guess if something went wrong, the likelihood was that only he would be killed given his exceptionally stringent safety checks  🤦‍♂️

No speed limit on a lot of the autobahns in Germany but that is taking the p—S , think he might be in trouble there , think it comes under the driving with due care and attention ! I’m pretty sure unless he was a professional racing driver his reaction times would be 100 mph under that !

I recall many moons ago before Mrs Agriv8 was miss not Mrs we drove down to Austria in a a beat up Citroen zx through Germany. I recall about an hour north of manhiem overtaking some trucks and picked up a flash from a car that seemed like a mile behind us. Gently pulled in between a pair of trucks when the Audi flew past. Got a thank you nod and wave with his cigarette laden hand while his other hand held the wheel with two fingers !

judged  his speed to be well above 150mph as he passed us while we were cruising at 80/85 as if we were parked up - recall it was on of the early Audi s series possibly s4

great week skiing  as well ( life before kids !?! )

I don’t believe many drivers have the talent and I used to grease monkey in a racing team with drivers that were f1 standby drivers !

How can he be prosecuted if there’s no speed limit?

Because they will get him on due care and attention to other road users !

Over a hill and came across an accident could he stop ? if they can prove he couldn’t with braking distances he will be in hot water !

The same could apply if he were doing 80mph though couldn’t it, or a 100.
Only man could design a vehicle ( or buy one ) capable of such speeds and then prosecute someone for taking full advantage of it. 😀

Driving without due care and attention if they deem he was driving dangerously, they don’t have set speed limits but they do expect you to be sensible !

‘Sensible’. Yeah, that makes complete sense.

It's a tricky one, to be sure. He's not broken the law and it'll be tough to prove he was driving even carelessly. But neither will they want to set a precedent that says 417km/h is fine...

If they can find a loophole to charge him, they will. If they don't, I think  the calls for the ending of derestricted autobahns will become even louder.

That makes more sense…..I think.
We have a maximum speed limit of 70 in this country, as everyone knows, yet it’s perfectly legal and acceptable to buy a vehicle capable of doing twice that, but not legal or acceptable to do so. 🤷‍♂️

Indeed. and it's an arbitrary figure that has little relevance to modern safety standards in cars anyway. I feel there's something wrong with being able to drive at 260 on an open road, but as Germany's law allows it, I'm not sure the police will be able to charge him with anything they genuinely believe could stick in a court. And I'm not sure it's the police's job to go trawling through the law book trying to create a crime out of it in the first place...

I’m just playing devils advocate. 🙂

I totally agree…. 260mph on a public highway? Ridiculous! There again, no speed limit! 😀

There did used to be no speed limit on British motorways. Once upon a time. The story is that someone decided to take his Sunbeam Tiger (I had one once too) for a drive and the rest, as they say, is history. Others say it was an AC Cobra. Same engine...different car! But nearer the truth is that the Tories' Beeching cuts prompted by Ernest Marples' cronies in road haulage moved freight off rail and onto the roads and so the M1 once virtually lorry free became the horrible experience it is today.

I have "cruised" at 150mph in my Mondeo estate when I had her in Germany, as long as it's an unrestricted zone and the conditions allow there is no problem.

I think the authorities believe this bloke may have been taking part in a race, and that is against the law,if they can prove it they will prosecute.

260mph seems reckless but no speed limit is no speed limit. If they think people should drive slower, put a speed limit in place.

If he was racing which is illegal, charge him. If not, charging him with anything would purely be someone's opinion rather than the law.
