ditchman Posted August 25, 2022 Report Share Posted August 25, 2022 (edited) Whilst not shooting ..i used to collect art that i liked and could afford..........this is done by a well known artist Ruth Burt-smith.......B. 1864.......they were a family of artists...in the early years she was riding on the back of the reputation of her father... They hail from either Devon or Cornwall...........later in her carreer she had a studio in Torwood in Scotland...(near an eastuary).....this picture shouts at me it is a seaside harbour in Devon or Cornwall......i have spent along time trying to find out EXCACTLY where it was painted i think it was painted early in her carreer ...it is not one of her best and it is a watercolour...some of her oils are mouth watering......... Keep your back door locked i ...a while ago re-united a pair of oil paintings early 18th cent from the "Suffolk school"...no atributation...but speculation via Bonhams and Christies.....they are scene's of a suffolk landscape...i would love to know where the subject matter is..... Ruth Burt-smith was born in 1864...and died 1946........i rekon the painting was done in the late 1800's............
