rapid rich
For English skeet I always used skeet and quarter . Is that a good enough choice or would cylinder / skeet etc be a better choice or 2 matching chokes ? Also comments on weight of loads 24 /28 g ? 8’s or 9’s ? thanks RR
Gordon R
On Skeet, the distances involved need no choke. 9s have more pellets and at skeet range, why go for larger. Same applies to 24/28grm.
TOPGUN749
I like to use skeet(or true cylinder) and improved cylinder (5-8 thou choke) for the further target if a little slow on a pair. The closest target can be 10 yards, the furthest 30 yards if leaving a bit late. Size 8 shot is best overall, but 9 for most shots.I rarely shoot English Skeet now,but did make the Wales team in 1987 for the International at Kippen Gun Club,Scotland. TIGHTCHOKE
The old way to become competent at English Skeet was to shoot half choke in practice and cylinder and quarter in competition with 9s.

Did you know Hayden Thomas - from up by Wrexham?? To answer the OP Question 8's and quarters for practice - 9's and Skeet/Cylinder for comp - 24g is plenty - shot 100 straight with that.... It was one of his many strings to his bow - great bloke - the only coaching I had for Skeet was from him - unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago - there was one hell of a turnout for his funeral from the shooting community. He was the first person I called when I shot the 100 straight.

Sorry to hear that, sadly we are all getting older, and others of that team will not be with us.I think E H Thomas is the one at the front with all the medals! samboy
I shoot Olympic skeet and use Cyl and Skeet chokes with 24g 9s. I would normally use Sk and Sk but the gun only came with one Sk choke.
Anni
Skeet bottom barrel Quarter top barrel for me. 8s or 9s 28g are fine. have gone through periods of using Quarter in both barrels. And always practice with the combination you’re going to use in competition.
