shootingmike
Anyone have an educated opinion on these? Had some Alt Bergs before but they were too small. Seemed well made though. Love the look of the Brandecosse. Price similar for both in tall / medium length boots.
Dave at kelton
I have two pairs of Brandecosse as I am in them on the hill three or four days a week. I have one drying whilst I wear the others. Oldest pair in their fourth season and still as good as ever keeping my feet dry worn with gaiters. I particularly like the rigid sole and traditional welting. These boots are well made and looked after will last. I take a size 10 and find sizing spot on although I visited them to try before I bought my first pair. That was before they did the various fairs. I treat them from time time alternating between leather balsam/renovating cream and traditional dubbin. Hope this helps.
shootingmike
Very helpful Dave thank you! I really like the look of them, but the ones I fancy (Brontolare 9 inch) are out of stock until spring in my size, hence considering the alt bergs
did i miss
Go for the brandecosse you will not go roung I got some and not one that looks after boots hit them with the pressure washer after a soot day let me dry bang some of that wax stuff on and that's it think they are now 7 years old
figgy
I like Altberg boots. They do some hardwearing gamekeepers boots if your going to hammer them. I always go at least half a size bigger and a little wider fitting. Thick boots socks and your feet won’t won’t complain. the Brandecosse boots do look nice. GingerCat
Worn alt bergs 12 hrs a day for many many days (decades in reality). They wear well and are comfy. Yes there are lighter boots and tougher boots however altbers do the job very well at a reasonable price. Aku make some decent fabric boots if you don't want leather that are just as waterproof. Bungle The Bear
I have two pairs of Brand Ecosse cervo 11” and Rubicons, both 5 years old and like new, just look after them, I’ve had altbergs too, however I found them deadly on some slippery surfaces
shootingmike
Thanks all, very helpful. Will probably wait for the Brandecosse to come back in stock. Really like the look of them.
sam triple
Like my Altbergs reasonably price , used by armed services and police so can’t be that bad
keeper96
I’ve tried most boot brands as a stalker in Scotland and the only ones that lasted more than 6 months was altberg. I’d never have a pair of anything else these days!
HantsRob
Altbergs are good but I find they wear quicker than a lot of brands when driving lots I love love love my Magnums for wearability. It seems a bit beretta vs browning between Altberg and Magnum. I believe Magnum are a Hi Tek brand I haven't worn Belleville but heard nice things Mammut and Berghaus are good but depends on fit. Altberg do a range called GFit for wider feet, if that's your issue? They have 5 width fittings and of course different sizes https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots
DazAllison
Had the Cervos from Brandecosse for a few seasons now and can’t fault them at all they are very good, would definitely recommend them
Hicky
If you go for altbergs, get them from the factory in Richmond. The issue version is inferior by a fair margin(much cheaper though to buy). The sole is slippier. All of this is from experience of 15+yrs in altbergs and the past 5 in issue versions. dorianbuilders
They don’t seem to do the gamekeeper/coated boots anymore do they? Is that due to issues with them? I had a pair of new altberg military boots and couldn’t get on too well with the locking lace hooks at the top of the foot.
matone
Bought my 1st Altbergs in the spring,Kisdon G last after decades of Meindls.Done a lot of walking in the Kisdons and they`ve proven to be the most comfortable boots I think I`ve ever bought,as well as having soles which seem to find grip in most situations .Hth. Very minor imperfections and £100 or so cheaper but coming with all the usual guarantees. Bought my second pair that way and brilliant.
