Maccarjm
Wondering if anyone else feeds their dogs pigeon ? My dog loves it when cooked, however I’m concerned about her consuming lead shot. I do try to throughly check the meat I give her, however can’t always be certain I get every pellet. Thoughts ??
mgsontour
When I breast out any bird, dogs always get a raw treat. Make sure if you notice an entry of a pellet you also look for the corresponding exit hole if not the pellet is still in there
Docleo
If you're concerned, why not using steel?
humperdingle
Cut the meat in to thin enough slices and you will easily detect any shot that might be left 👍

Lead will kill ferrets, so I only feed them vermin shot with steel. I still have a thorough search for shot however.
12gauge82
If worried you've missed any, I'm sure a wand style metal detector could be bought quite cheaply.
snow white
What for lead shot where you going to get one of them

snow white
Don’t think lead is detectable on that sort of device

Im sure someone with far more knowledge than I, or a manufacturer could confirm.
snow white
Let’s see if someone more knowledgeable is reading this because I was under the impression that lead doesn’t show up if you watch the game and wildlife programs on tv the game wardens check the cartridges with a magnet to see if using steel as it picks up. Neither are tungsten, Bismuth, Copper or Silver magnetic. If on the otherhand, you nickel plate lead, it will show up as magnetic. Sweet11-87
personaly id not give it a second thought. i could be wrong but id imagine dogs operate under the same premis as us. the odd piece of lead shot will be fine as it will go through them so quick it wont do any harm. not like they grind it up in a gizzard or anything. loriusgarrulus
The bigger more expensive metal detectors will detect lead, mine does. Old battle sites are popular for detecting lead ball shot. I don't know if you would get a small cheap wand type to detect lead shot. Used to have fun watching metal detectorists getting excited on field next door to an old wood with a rookery (adjacent a historic site), finding nowt but my catapult ammo that had been shot at the crows etc, both 9mm steelies and 38 cal lead balls and they were finding both. Theres an old battle site from the 1798 United Irish men rebellion less than a mile from me, my dad has dug up a huge amount of shot from the English Brown Bess muskets and grapeshot from the cannons.
