you are quite right it could do with mushrooms or something else...i just am anty waste so i justfinished off stuff in the fridge before i shop tomorrow,,

I am exactly the same Simon , just don't like to see food wasted , we do our main shopping every other Sunday and I get the bread , milk and any other bits and pieces when I take the dog out during the week as I go past Morrisons one way and TESCO'S the other , I am now getting a bit of a dab hand in doing some of the teas , we had a pkt of Aberdeen Angus beef mince in the fridge so I done it in the frying pan for a short while and in the veg department there were a few Sprouts , a lump of collie , Onion and a few bits of Asparagus so I chopped the veg up into very small squares and chucked the lot into a casserole dish mixed with the mince out of the pan , then I cut some slices of spuds and laid them on the top . the dish was then placed in the middle of the oven for a couple of hours and it was lovely , to much to eat in one go and we finished it off the following night with any thing else I could find to mix with it , 😋

My mother had 5 of us and was expecting the sixth when my father was abroad in the R N and as luck would have it , we had our grand parents living half way down our same road so now and again a couple of us would go there for tea , my grandad was a cook on the drifters that went out of Yarmouth and what I can remember was his cooking was plain but very good , he kept Rabbits like a lot of other people at the time and Rabbit to us was luxury , when the meat was taken of the carcase the bones then went in a sausepan with all the fresh veg for a Rabbit stew , another top meal ,along with steamed dumplings and a steak and kidney pudding although the steak might had been in short supply, but any waste would had been next to nothing . :drinks:

Don't get stuff as good as that when our fridge is full

i had 2 sad looking black pud from a 4 pack.......an opened tin of toms from a pervious meal....some cold boiled pots from a stew meal wot i did a while back.....and some eggs that had been hangin' about too long

trouble is for shoppin ...it is difficult to buy for one person...so i buy the smallest amount knowing i will have un-used left over....which i have to work out what i do with it :good:
