Not uncommon for ships to have a combination of liferafts and lifeboats to get up to the required numbers.
DUNKS
Funny story about liferafts on a boat. On a RN destroyer in the 50s and in the far east the skipper on a whim decided to "as an exercise" cut loose one of the emergency Carley floats which had been lashed to the upperdeck for many years without moving. These cork Carley floats were quite large oval floats with a rope bottom designed to be cut loose in an emergency. This one hit the water with a big splash AND SANK LIKE A BRICK. There was silence on the bridge!

As I understand it methane has to be stored under enormous pressure (or very low temperatures) and is seriously explosive if it leaks into a confined space ......... With all those people on board there shouldnt be a shortage of methane 🤢

islandgun
If you can run a shlp the size of a town on methane, I imagine the house of commons could heat London

markm
I done a cruise out of Miami last summer and a 2 others over the years. We visited - Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Cozumel - it was on one of the bigger ships out of that port. For nearly the whole 7 days you could see other ships from the same place. I'm not keen on massive crowds, you’d be surprised how well they are designed to spread out people. You never hear of a modern cruise ship sinking, even the Costa Concordia was due to an idiot… and the law has changed since the - they have the most advanced technology for weather forecasting and stabilisers have been on cruise ships for more than 20 years to deal with rough seas. They will change routes and ports depending on predicted weather. its not my thing, but I’ve enjoyed the 3 I’ve been on
Smokersmith
Clearly the folks that have spent the money on it expect it to pay back. I suspect not many on here have £1.6 billion spare … so perhaps they know what they’re doing.

I expect they do, and assuming all goes well they will very probably get a decent return (that is why they do it after all). I had two points; It's not for me IF (and ~I accept it's unlikely) something bad did happen - it will be on an awfully big scale

We have done 2 from there, as it saves the drive to Southampton. We have just booked another.
