There was a new topic posted yesterday, well two identical posts actually, calling out another poster and myself. Bit weird but hey, all for free speech, rather than take offence I replied with something relevant to the topic title. The first thread was removed and then the duplicate followed some time afterwards. Fair enough. I actually thought it was very funny particularly given that it back-fired on the OP. Later on I reflected a bit and wondered why, not for the first time, do I post here. Then I remembered a PM sent to me in 2020, by a poster now long gone from PW...

I very much admire your fortitude in trying to show reason, measure and objectivity in your posts on so many threads, but it is regrettable that you are one of just a small handful of reasonable voices in the vast echo chamber of PW ignorance and closed mindedness.

I have always subscribed to the theory that it is better to openly challenge ignorance in the hope that it helps to inform or cause someone to question their prejudices, but it just does not work when the volume of prejudice is louder and easier to digest.

It saddens me quite a bit at the undercurrent of prejudice that is prevalent amongst the PW community, some of it is just honest ignorance and knee jerk reactions and i get that, but a lot of it is wilful ignorance and bigotry.  Perhaps a product of the generation of many of the posters.

More power to your elbow all the same for as long as your resolve to confront the dullards continues, I confess that my enthusiasm to participate and try and be a voice of reason is very much diminished.

I've pasted in entirety and sincerely do not wish to insult anyone individually or collectively in any way, particularly in reference to the generalization relating to age (I'm not that far off retiring myself). My point is that this is the reflection of one of our own, reflecting on the community in general, I dread to think what the views of members of the public browsing these pages might conclude. How about we all try to be a bit "better"...

I very much doubt the general public are scrolling through PW, I've commented on other shooting platforms about something for sale or said on here, and they've been totally oblivious to what PW was 🤣🤣

But at least the adverts have been sorted.

PW is a strange old beast, at times it can be full of absolute twaddle other times you would think you have stepped into  a far left or right political meeting, and then when you think its just madness a few posts of something significant come along with some real indepth chat and debate that just makes perfect sense.

And that's the magic of it, there is a huge spectrum of views and opinions, sometimes these views and opinions are a bit beyond and we have to step in and give a warning/lock it/remove it, but given the huge amount posted admin intervention is a small part.

And remember if you don't like what's going on in off topic there are lots of other forums to browse, cars, food, fishing, heck there is even airguns

Just be aware that parts of the forum are open, don't be offensive to others, keep the language clean, and smile.

This is exactly me, but,,,,, I'm the silent one sitting off to one side who adds the occasional comment. Others look around as if they heard something, but not sure where the sound came from 🙄😆🤣🤓

PW can be laughable at times, with all the self-appointed 'specialists' sorting out the country's woes 🤠🥸🥳😇🤣,,,, but life goes on 🫣😄

I missed the earlier fun and games but I see ‘self aggrandising’ has been given new meaning this evening 😆

Ah, if only everyone could be more enlightened there would be no need for discussion because there would be no dissenting views or opinions. Indeed, we can let the self appointed clever and enlightened people do all the thinking for everyone and then dictate what everyone else’s thoughts, opinions and experiences are allowed and acceptable. Obviously there would be no Brexit, no Farage, no Trump and no low status opinions.

This all reminds me of a hundred or so PMs I have received from a variety of really clever people holding all the correct opinions over the years;

That’s an astonishing lack of self awareness or self reflection. If you genuinely can’t see how crass and self-aggrandising this thread is (which for some bizarre reason you created), then I couldn’t even begin to attempt to explain why or how to you.

I’m confident a good number of people got the key point which is the fact that PW used to be a rich ecosystem of diverse thought and opinions. That is clearly much less so the case today, to the point where two posters who aren’t PW mainstream in their views get called out publicly.

The PM I shared is genuine, makes no difference to me whether it’s believed or not. The author of that message basically gave up and left, as have various others over the years.

Perhaps at some point the rest of us non-mainstream posters will give up too. I’m sure some would relish an environment where there was no diversity of thought or opinion, everything “topical” unanimously agreed upon.

Unplug MSM altogether and get all your “news” from the likes of Tousi TV, which isn’t about news at all - crikey, people tell you MSM is biased but Tousi is telling you exactly what to think and how to interpret his streams. Attractive to those who are either not capable of thinking for themselves or too lazy. A sure path to radicalisation of thoughts, nice.

Here's a suggestion, perhaps we should have good old ordinary Pigeon Watch for the old style shooters and a Pigeon Watch Platinum for the GLITTERATI and their BIG HEADS.

My intellect is pretty limited so my posts on PW are usually restricted to countryside matters.

I do though read other posts on other topics and I don't usually form strong enough opinions to respond. In this case I will. I find you unnecessarily argumentative and self opinionated. Starting this thread represents that perfectly.
