Now the new Gov't has offered the Junior Doctors 22% (which their leaders are recommending they reject) - the GP have now voted to 'Work to Rule"

So very predictable, Labour will push inflation through the roof with their total capitulation on day one to the Unions.  Totally unfit for purpose.

I really don't see how the junior doctors actually deserve such a massive pay increase, have they become THAT much better at their jobs to warrant it? They need to drain the swamp of needless bureaucracy and middle management that has permeated the NHS work force over recent times, not to mention the made up jobs to satisfy the wokeness brigade. To free up and make it more efficient they need to get consultants working on the weekend, there are people who block beds all weekend because the consultant won't come in til Monday to check their scans.

I can understand the need to take pressure off GP surgeries. To help they need to open more practices, and encourage more doctors to take on that role. The surgery in my town of approx 4000 people in it is totally over run because of the catchment area taking in patients from other surrounding towns and the rural areas meaning they have over 10,000 people on their books.

Totally agree Rob85, my wife works for the NHS in admin and there are 5 girls run by 4 managers and that’s if they are in work.

It will never be fixed as it is impossible due to the entire size and infrastructure that is hidden by the big bosses.

Personally I would give to the yanks for a set time and let them loose, they don’t suffer lazy ****.

Obviously not all the NHS people are lazy, just most of them!

Public sector pay has to keep up.We don't have enough doctors. They can earn more working pretty much anywhere else. Given the training, the responsibility, the liability and the bodily fluids of the old the sick and the weak they deal with there are not many able to do the job.  If you want quality you have to pay for it.

The quality of the service delivered becomes more relevant when you have to use it.

What about them?

The NHS can and does charge for services to visitors but there is a reciprocal funding arrangement of some sort with some countries.

On tourists I would insist that any tourist has health insurance to be admitted.

It’s a shame that NHS Trusts refuse to collect fees from healthcare tourists.
The Trusts are allowed to, but historically refused to do it - I guess on the basis that we mug taxpayers must stump up.

They do.

Give it to them, they can then go and turn it all  Private, like the  Dentist's, eight years we moved back here? Can't get NHS Dentist still, £74.00 twice a year to be told the same thing's. First problem since then,(today) you need a cap???. Well that will be? Wait, £740.00 that's why I am selling some guns.

" What about them. " ,i added them to your list,  doctors don't deal with on mass the cleaning up of body fluids the nursing staff do because they treat people with respect and don't talk about old people as you have described them .

They have more respect.  You may need them one day.

So what about them? What point are you trying to make?

We were talking about doctors pay, not nurses.  I said. Given the training, the responsibility, the liability and the bodily fluids of the old the sick and the weak they deal with there are not many able to do the job.

No disrespect it's a fact.

You mentioned. The old and infirm , I said that others also cause. Problems . And added them to your list. I was pointing out the the doctors do not generally  sort out the mess  the nursing staff do , they work as a team . You implied the doctors do it . If they can't do the job then its time to move on.

Maybe giving the junior doctors 22% was a mistake the unions have clocked this and jumped on the bandwagon ?. now the bin men are holding out while the Edinburgh festival is on here for 8 days tourists are going to see Edinburgh's rubbish in the streets

Its not true. I am sure it happens sometimes but on the whole they collect the fees due. There are reciprocal arrangements too for some countries.

The biggest scammers (i bet) are expat brits. Living on the costa coffee and coming back to get treated.

It's a problem certainly. Full fact has a good analysis that puts it more in perspective.

Why we do not require health insurance from all tourists i don't know. We would have to employ a load of border people but that's not a bad thing. We could pay for it all with a tourist tax on each visitor.

Or another idea, why dont  we have an illegal immigrant  tax charged to all of the folks who want them here. From Auntie.
