paul1966
just wondering which is the best way to store a gun in a cabinet. i have mine with the barrels up because it seems more stable that way but it could lead to oil running down the barrels into the stock, so should i be storing it barrels down? Hunter
If you oil your barrels till they are dripping, oil in the stock is the least of your problems A light wipe with oil, and you can put your gun away however you choose Im a muzzel up person. Easy to get the gns in and out, and does not make holes in the foam at the base of the safe. But really its up to you what way you put your gun in your safe, I never thought someone would as on here

Guest The Outlaw
Down for me too. Got a bit of soft wood in the bottom to protect the ends of the barrels Tony
JohnGalway
Down, and go easy on the oil Wipe with an oily cloth is plenty.
Cranfield
I have always stored my guns barrel up and never leave them with excess oil in the barrels, or action, after cleaning. There has never been any sign of oil weakening the stocks on any of them.
Floating Chamber
Barrels down.
Bagsy
Sometimes up, sometimes down. Either way I lightly oil the barrels and action and remove any excess before storing using kitchen roll.
NorfolkBoy
All the gun shops that I've ever been in have their guns 'barrel up' in the racks. On the assumption that they know more than I do I've always stored mine barrel up - lightly oiled.

BrowningBoy
Broken down (cabinet too short, must get a new one) and I made up a shape in foam to take the barrel ends to protect them. I think I would store it barrels up if the cabinet was tall enough; decisons decisions....

MC
Up, Leaving any oil in your barrels is asking for trouble. If they are properly cleaned and wiped out dry then there is no need to oil them. Excess oil in a barrel can slow down a gastight wad and lead to excessive pressures. And that makes a mess. bobt
Down here too, I give the tubes a squirt of WD40 before putting them away, then wipe them out before use.
squodged
Always barrels down. Had an old bloke at the gun club that said he does it, and it seemed to make sense. Plus I use a gun sock which gives a bit of cushioning to the barrel ends.
njc110381
Barrels up for me. I clean my guns with Napier spray, then wipe out all the excess with dry kitchen roll or a boresnake. I have a VP90 pouch in the cabinet too. You don't need to soak a gun in oil for it to be safely coated, just a very light coating is plenty
