  1. Your most welcome mate. As usual different forces and different FEOs seem to approach things slightly differently. In essence they are being "pushed" towards not putting unnecessary restrictions in place. How does having an open licence make you a safer or more responsible shot? It doesnt. You never know, at some point the police forces may develop a "joined up and even approach". Not holding my breath though. Let us know how you get on.
  2. A nice dead sheep should do as it will take a while for nature to get through it.
  3. I think you can though I am sure it is illegal in some countries.
  4. I hope this is reference to a shotgun and nothing else ... as that would be rude
  5. No kidding about the BOOM of black powder. Went shooing with my father in law on a range near Salisbury, most guys firing .22 apart from by father in law with one of his black powder rifles (not sure on calibre). First shot shook the condensation off the tin roof where they shoot from. Have to wait 5 seconds to see what the shot placement is like but great fun.
  6. One of the farms where I shoot will leave a dead ewe out for a few nights every now and again just to see whats about. if its untouched for 3-4 days he will put in the yard ready for disposal, if its been disturbed I get a call. To be fair the foxes are well controlled and dont cause many issues. As fruity says it is often good to tie the dead stock (chickens and similar smaller stock) to a post or similar to stop the fox running off with it and eating in cover.
  7. Well done buddy..now the fun bit starts.
  8. Ask the FEO mate and see what the response is. It will make your life a lot simpler to have an open licence.

I wouldnt bother mate. They are only valid on the date that they are issued and I doubt most farmers would pay any interest to it as it is mostly the case of who you know that gets you onto land in the first place.
  10. Makes a nice change from a .22lr and no controversy good going buddy
  11. +1. Though I dont have the patience to wait an hour though so normally I ll give it 10 mins and then move on. Different calls, different volumes for different times of the year. Handy to have a couple of mouth callers and the trusty back of your hand as well (one you cant forget or loose). I had a hand squeak last night and within 30 seconds a nice big dox fox was within 50 yards (75 grain hornady .243 sst made short work of him).
  12. Well done guys, good shooting.
  13. Well done mate 12 is a good start as the guys have all said. The issue you find is the higher the number you shoot the higher your expectation and that isnt the way it works. I picked up a new permission with a fair few crows having only shot a few over the years. Have had over 450 in the last 4 months (not a big number for some) with the best outing of 62 and some 1s or 2s. As long as you enjoy yourself and have some good shooting that is the main things. 10 challenging crows shot are better then 20 easy ones in my opinion as it shouldnt be a numbers game. Keep up the good work
  14. I cant comment about the man from a personal perspective but my god his shooting is impressive.
  15. Great to read this and well done both of you.
  16. I do hope you got to buy something nice as well.
  17. Sorry mate...there have been a few posts about Durham not allowing .22lr for foxes. Wrong end of the stick on my part
  18. Good going...now onto the fun bit.
  19. Apologies as I know I am breaking the first rule by talking about pump club but as of tomorrow I can join its hallowed ranks. Going to pick up my new Winchester SXP Black shadow, 28" barrel, 3" chamber. Hopefully I can give it an outing over the weekend.
  20. You might want to rephrase that kenholland
  21. Well done on the shooting and good man for your fine comments about the .270. I have one myself and think it is a great rifle. I have shot a few Sika and fallow and it certainly does the job.
