fenix
just sorting some cover out which is the best im sure you lads will no thanks dm I would be inclined to go with either Autonational or Autoaid depending on what type of cover you want. Several friends use the insure and claim back system and havent had any problems, this is via autonational. Some info http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/roadside-recovery including reviews from people that have used the service. Other option , if you shop in tesco ypou can get RAC chep uisng clubcard, or AA are on cahsback sites. As an extra bit of info a friend mystery shopped the AA, but on the AAs behalf. him and a couple of coleagues did every patrol in the UK, and I helped out with a couple. Have to say they did impress, and no problems with anybody trying to do a deal on things like batterys.
wyatt
Which ever you decide to go with check out Quidco as you can get quite a bit of money back on the policies!
100milesaway
If it's just a truck or car, makes no odds but if it's to include a motorcycle go for the AA. We were stuck for 2 days once up in the Lakes, with lots of promises and no shows with the RAC, when they finally did show they turned up with a pickup truck with no planks or ties . We hired a van and got ourselves home, but they had rather a large compensation claim to repay us. from Auntie.
Fisherman Mike
I use Green Flag as does my wife and daughter... I have always found them very competitive and very efficient To be blunt I had serious issues with both the AA and the RAC in the past, generally because the guys who turned up obviously werent properly trained. Both were very expensive for the full cover also. http://www.greenflag.com/

Both were very expensive for the full cover also. I had an issue with the AA last winter with the home start, basically the AA wouldn't/didn't turn up.... on a plus point the AA cover you, not the car, BJ
steve_b_wales
I've been with the AA for many years. On the times I've called them out, they were excellent. The only thing I insist on, when phoning them, is they don't send a local garage to act on their behalf!

VicW
I have used Brittania Rescue for many years. They have won lots of awards apparently. I needed their services once when my Peugeot blew a head gasket and couldn't fault them. Vic.
stubby
Id say swap between the two yearly, have been an AA member for years, yet each year on renewel, I search the net for quotes, 10 times outta 10, I'll get an AA quote cheaper than what the renewel letter is stating, ringing them up and quoting the cheaper price and threatning to leave, they will honour the cheaper price, but you should'ent really have to go to all that hassel I have called them out a few times this year, both car and motorbike, and yes, even though you stipulate on the phone that you have a bike and will need a transporter, they still send a small inadequate van, meaning more waiting for a larger one to arrive
BlaserF3
When I had French cars I used to use Autonational and found them very good and quick. I use Toyota's own now but have never had to use it.
Moors Man
When I had French cars I used to use Autonational and found them very good and quick. I use Toyota's own now but have never had to use it. Been with the RAC for 30 years and have always found they fantastic. Used them more when I was younger running bangers but on the couple of times I have used them recently they were out with 30 mins.

turbo33
Won't bore you with the details, but I would NEVER go with the RAC again. Without doubt the most incompetant/disorganised and amatuerish crowd from the office/call centres right down to the monkey with the wrench, that I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Do not fall for the seemingly competitive quotes on the web...You will be amazed to find that whatever it is, you are not covered.!!!! mad1
last new years eve we broke down on side of motorway so i called rac then when they eventually found me he turned up i a little van. I would not care but they were told that the 4x4 would not move and needed to be towed of hard shoulder the guy told me that they are not allowed to fix a vehicle at side of road as its not safe any way cut a long story short i noticed that i only lost drive cos i knocked the small gear stick out of gear went home and cancelled my subscription with them . So not the rac for me

I use autoaid and its very good claim the amount back, I had a camper van break down (clutch slave cylinder) towed me home and I claimed the money back and it was sent to me within 2 weeks. edited to say I think it cost me about £37 per year. jacksdad
I was with the RAC, I broke down at a car show of all places, no worries, rang the number only to find out my ex had cancelled the direct debits, even tho she was supposed to keep paying it as I drive her & Jack about, and she cant drive So the bint said I could rejoin, after paying £150 something , then they would come out, I knew what was wrong (coilpack) and for sure they wouldn't carry one its a 1998 peugeot coupe V6 fully modded by me! They then said they would take me up to 50 miles: I was 160 miles from home...so I limped home on 5 cylinders, fixed it then joined the AA (who will take you anywhere in the UK if they cannot fix) plus I took out my house insurance with them, not the cheapest house insurance but by far the best policy So its the AA for me from now on! hamish64
Had to call out RAC last week (First time) the guy arrived in 25 minutes, very efficient, mobile again in 15 minutes. Satisfied
paulf
Ive been with both, AA for me are farr better. My experience with the RAC involved stupidly long waiting times despite being advised an hour, sending out a van when told I would need recovering and had a trailer etc. The AA have been brilliant, and on each ocasion the recovery and break down guys have been fantastic. paul1966
rac for me, paid by tesco clubcard vouchers, about £27 for roadside repair and if they can't fix it they tow you to your destination or any where else.
