JonD
George has just won his 18th world title in New Zealand: "Just won my 18th World Title by 14 clays in Auckland, New Zealand. It was a 1,2,3 podium for the Brits. Mark Marshall Silver (GB), Chris Childerhouse Bronze (GB), Damien Birgin 4th (Aus). Shot 92/100 and went into the 25 bird final with a 13 target lead. Absolutely over the moon, what a great start to 2011. Very hard and technical shoot." Congratulations to George and all the other UK shooters! Jon. Boristhedog
Good result for George and British shooters. Perhaps 'Sir George' in the Queen's Birthday honours...
steve_b_wales
Yes, Give him a Knighthood, or an MBE /OBE. Other sportsmen have been given this for much less!
Gordon R
It is one of life's great mysteries why he is not more acclaimed. Any other country would be boasting about him. Ian Botham - half decent cricketer, but not world class - worshipped. Tim Henman - useless tennis player - hero worshipped. Andy Murray - serial under achiever - never out of the papers. Ronnie O'Sullivan - genuine world class talent, but falls out of love with snooker every other week. George Digweed - won everything there is to win - top bloke - zilch. Shropshire_Lad
So true, it can only be because its a shooting related sport. You don't win 18 worlds without being the best in your chosen sport.
Beardo
it should be the leading sports page headline in all the papers, but i bet it doesn't even get some small print
Gordon R
Ian - fair point, but I am talking about the media and general public.
paulos
Apparently it was a clean sweep for England, with Golds for Seniors, Ladies, Juniors and Veterans. If shooting ever wants to gain decent media coverage, the very least grounds and governing bodies could do is keep their websites up to date - still no full results from an official source

berties
The man is legend The main stream media should big him up,his success should be honoured ,higher up the list of the normal garbage, let's hear about something good for a change Well done the British team
GregR
good article on him in last month's 'The Field' suggesting a 'Sir' George wouldn't be inappropriate. Couldn't agree more. There is a precedent for having MBE & KBE simultaneously, look to the fortunes of a certain Scottish cyclist

Dekers
This country has historically done well in many shooting disciplines, but it is just not PC in too many peoples eyes. Very well done to George, he really is a bit of a legend!
