Coloured shooters

This topic was raised in the office today... not at all in a racist way... just discussing the fact.

I work in the angling journalism industry and in almost 20 years I've yet to come across any coloured anglers on the pleasure, match or specimen fishing scene, and neither have I met or shot with any coloured lads/lasses at any of the clay grounds I've visited.

Are these two sports solely for the caucasians?

What do you reckon?

There's a few Asians at Kibworth but then it's right next to Leicester so I suppose there would be.

Same with running though, I used to do a few charity 10k's and rarely saw a furriner, they must have all been at the sales as usual ;)

You're bang on there. Never seen a black sea angler but the chinese are mad for it down my way. Its hilarious watching them cast these wafty old glass rods about 30 yds and then seeing them hanging on in anticiapation but by jingo do they knock out a few Bass.

Over here we just call them minorities. Colored has been out of use since the 70's.

I know several non white individuals who shoot. But it's definately a sport with an overwhelmingly white crowd. The shooting community in the U.S is probably in the range of 85-90% white, even though the country is only 64% white.

I've seen two or three on occasions at my local shooting ground, but sadly a few of the members make loud and openly racist comments near them and they are not often seen back (strange that!), if you challenge these idiots though, all they do is say 'what is your problem' and walk away. One guy sticks with it though, he says his turban makes him a bit deaf - top fella and a good shot. :good:

I'm aware of a few guys of "Asian descent" on the forums. The only occasion i've ever seen a non-white when out shooting, was one day at the clay ground. A dozen guys , all dressed in the long white gowns seen in Asia and North Africa. All but one of the younger guys... Who was bedecked head to toe in camo gear :D

Its realy funny you bring this up because i thought about this myself. I dont ever recall seeing any non white people doing any country or field sports. There are a few gun stalls in the melton mowbray market and I saw for the first time a black man on a stall in cammo gear, I just thought oh thats funny and thought how come you dont see more non white people doing these sports. Ive seen very irregulary black and chinese people playing golf but thats it.

we had a black guy come driven shooting hear ( but i think it was some dodgey gang!!) they paid in cash and were quite good at shooting from the hip!

Yeah ok. I bet you also had some Arabs who came up, paid in cash and flew airliners into the pheasants too.

I have been out with one Black shooter on the pigeons, and a couple on the clays.

I have a large part of my family who are Muslim's none of whom shoot or show any interest in shooting, but then a lot of the white side are just the same

I know a few chaps of a different ethnic background who shoot and the old whipper in for the Avon Vale was a black gentleman who was originally from inner-city Bristol.

Another interesting point is in a pigeon hide someone with darker skin tends to stick out less prominently against a leafy hedgerow backdrop!

FM :)

spot the blackman? what a game to play. does it really matter?

In a way it does as it shows the obstacles they have to overcome to be welcomed into the sport. I've seen a few and they were generally the best spoken politest guys going and as enthusiastic about the sport as any, thats clay shooting. Game shooting its far rarer though we had an Indian High commisioner shooting on a shoot I beat on years ago who had to be told whatever he did at home beaters weren't disposable here  since been back most years and his safety is just about acceptable now.
