wymberley
LG as it measures less than 0.36" (0.3598) provided there is five or more pellets. However, please check that this still remains valid (Firearms Act 1982 Section 1 (4), Exemptions from the need for a firearm certificate. (Steve, that's both ends covered! )
Rimfireboy
Sg's have only nine pellets in a cartridge. They don't like tight chokes though, best with cylinder or quarter max.

bicykillgaz
i think he's after fox rounds, you want a lower number mate low = bigger shot higher number = smaller shot. i'm off out tonight after fox with hull solway 3" 50g no3's nice big shot and plenty of it, they pattern really well through my escort 3/4 choke. big shot doesn't always pattern best, no3's are big enough but there is a shed load more pieces of shot than if you was using bb's or larger. i paid about £8.60 a box for my solways and think there great, they work for me anyway. Dekers
SG as far as I'm aware, but don't get fooled, they are all but useless except for blowing hinges off doors or cutting people in half at point blank range! A 30-40 yard fox may well walk clean through the pattern!
Dekers
If you mean the size of the shot, I have a box of #11, advertised as 'Orchard Shot' Never even seen or used anything smaller than 9, out of curiosity where do you find these, what do they cost and what do you do with them? Cheers

Zapp
The biggest pellet size doesnt translate into the best fox load. With really big shot there are so few pellets that you would be really limited on range because of gaps in the pattern. You'd be much better off with 36+ grams of number 1's or similar. BBs being optimal and sg /lg being the not an option.

Whitebridges
At one point we were encouraged to shoot starlings with very small shot, I think it was No 9. Foxes at about 30 yards, you need to get them front on or sideway's and around 36g of No 4's will bowl them over no problem. If you can't kill Charlie cleanly don't raise your gun. Vince Green
You are going to be more limited by what you can get hold of. Most gunshops don't stock much in the way of non mainstream cartridges because they don't sell quickly enough and they don't sell more than one box at a time when they do sell them. Its all about cash flow for them.
Matt Gould
i use 50gram loads for foxes, RC 50's 50gram of no 2's in a 3" shell work great , i have shot a hell of a lot of foxes with 32gr 6's your general pigeon/rabbit type load but obviously they have to be that much closer

stu nesling
either a heavy load of bb/1's (40-50gram) or a lighter load of smaller shot 3/4 (34-40 gram) important to keep some sort of pattern. as mentioned by someone else they will walk right through a pattern of 9 pellets at 25 yards
