TJ91
I had a disaster of a day on Sunday. Roosting pigeons. Couldn't hit a barn door! Butywent for a couple hours this morning and I was back to normal hitting some good shots. Everyone has their off days. P.s mods may move it, don't worry about it

countryman
Yep, same here, some days i am dead eye ****, other days i might as well be blindfolded. Work is what causes most of my bad days, that and the wife. Chris
Alycidon
Form is a fickle mistress. Nail the first one or two and you are away, miss them and you try and make sure of number 3, usually stopping the swing and missing behind.all downhill from there. Speed up your swing on the bad days, fire as you come ahead of the bird and keep the swing moving, do NOT aim it like a rifle. A

All about mindset, you've got to be totally relaxed, if your not you will shoot badly! The above advice is obviously based on experience, and they are right! Some days you feel right and the clay/pigeon looks massive, other days nothing goes right! If you can focus completely on the stand/target, empty your mind of all distractions (like nagging, previous misses!!), visualise a good kill, then you will hit more clays..... Easier said than done!!!

Trevorevans
Yep happens to me too and not just with my shooting either, I'm a keen snooker player but sometimes you could look at me and think I'd never picked up a cue before even though I play 2-3 times a week for 3-4 hours a time. It comes and goes just dont let it get you down. Edited January 24, 2013 by Trevorevans
garden gun
Yup, casting a fly is the same. Most days it goes roughly where you want it, on a good day you would make Izak Walton weep and then you may as well take up kniting.

Blackpowder
Peaks and troughs I think other than for the really natural shots, yes and ditto for the fly casting. Blackpowder
EdSolomons
Unless you are willing to put a lot of time and graft into it, then it is all part of the gam! Just make sure you enjoy the good days that much more.
Robin128
Just 2 things...don't listen to hecklers/know it alls and don't mount the gun before you call. in addition, check your feet and alter something as soon as you miss. HTH Agree entirely - though no one would be advised to take advice from me alone because I am (usually) a poor shot at clays - look at tennis players when they serve or cricketers at the crease and you will appreciate the importance of where your feet are pointing, and with the feet goes the head. Likewise, if things are going wrong, changing something can't make matters worse and may possibly make them better. A good cricket captain will change bowlers or field settings if need be; on the stand, you are the captain.
brett1985
i was just thinking this last weekend on the beaters day. must have had over 20 pheasents laugh at me as i tried in vain to bring one down. just couldnt hit a thing all morning. las 2 drives of the day are more for woodcock, which are substantially harder to hit, and i nailed a front to back. work that out?!?!?!? i get the feeling that im just better at instinctive shooting, as there i9s less time for me to over think things. If i have to much time i mess up lol! But stick me in a wood snap shooting i hit 90% of the targets! it realy gets me down at times because i know i have the abillity to be a very good all round shot and when decoying i shoot very well! But stick me in a feild and watch a bird come straight at me, il struggle with it?!
