Cosd
Best crop is the one the pigeons are feeding on! There are too many factors to determine one crop being better than another.

yickdaz
My thoughts entirely. Cat all depends which crop you get the most shooting over, had some great days on drilled beans, and standing beans, but i would say far and away i get most my shooting in summer, autumn, on laid barley and wheat and then through to december on barley and wheat stubbles few rape stubbles thrown in as well
cocknee
I have always had my best days on bean stubbles with many days of over 200 to my own gun my best being 278. Another food you haven't mentioned is acorns pigeons absolutely love them and in a good acorn year huge bags can be shot. At the moment in my area the best bags are being shot on maize which has been mown off after the game shooting season finished. Having said all that it still surprises me just what you can shoot a bag of pigeons over.
shootnfish
Peas for me best ever bag was 159. You get good shooting on them when there drilled then once they are about 3 or 4 inches high right through till they are harvested on the stubble even when disc'ed. Beans are good but you don't get as much shooting time on them.
RAMMER BURT
i had 90 crows and 88 pigeons on peas last year in one day field was right next to a sheep pen so crows were after the wool for nesting and the pigeons were on the peas
David 686
Cattle beans I've had more 100 birds days on beans than anything else. Barley is number 2.

bakerboy
Best crop is the one the pigeons are feeding on! There are too many factors to determine one crop being better than another. Cos and I finished a great week on Layed Barley last year. Every day 100+ (not with Cos or it would have been even better) On the Friday we shared a hide, Cos can fill in the details Edited February 20, 2013 by bakerboy
motty
I don't think there is a 'best' crop. I've had big bags on beet tops, wheat/barley/rape/pea/bean stubbles and other stuff too. I've heard of 400+ bags on maize and rape, 500+ bags on peas and beans - it just depends on food availability in the area at the time of year. Not one crop comes top on my list, they can ALL produce. Hamster
You can shoot beans all the way from drilling to while growing to when it's almost dried off in the summer and then cut and harvested so that is my number one followed by rape stubble. lee-kinsman
Peas.... and a very close second are beans then rape. Though last year I had my first ever 100+ on rape Got 103 one week and 110 the week after at a different farm
