Ton Up then Rain Stopped Play

Recommended Posts

Friday saw us heading out to an area which has held pigeon in the past and we had not seen much over the cold period. We were aware that they had been seeding this week as DB had past in the week. We arrived to find a barely field covered in pigeon so we popped to the farm to get the OK. Only to find a 4X4 in the yard and another shooter talking to the farmer, we asked if he was shooting and he said yes , so we left. We will never shoot if they get on the field first. As we drove down the lane we noticed birds in with the sheep two fields over on another farm. So we asked for permission explanning that we were going to shoot the next door farmer but he had another shooter in it. The farmer was not easy to convince but we told him to ring three other farmers for a reference and he said ok.

We set up on the sheep field and it had loads of pigeon poo in the clover so we knew that they had been feeding on it. The birds came in straight to the pattern and we had some steady sport. The shooter on the other farm only had about twenty shots and it went quiet so we think he went home .

We had our first ton of the year, picking up one hundred and fifteen pigeons and two crows a great day in the warm sun. We went back to the farm to thank the farmer, he said that he had phoned two of the other farmers we gave him and they had confirmed that we were ok, he said that he was going to seed a field next week and there were loads of pigeons on the next clover field to it so could we shoot Saturday to move them off. He gave us directions and we went to have a look on the way home. When we got to the field it was empty of birds but two dog walkers were on it.

Saturday saw us heading back to the field, when we arrived it had about twenty five birds down on the clover so we clapped them off to see the reaction they lifted and went straight back in. It was a difficult field to shoot with no cover due to it being wire fenced and a road down one edge. We built a hide and put out the pattern . We had customers straight away and it was steady for two hours then the dreaded rain started and we had two more birds in the rain. We decided to call it a day and picked up sixty one pigeons .

Well done PC. Your smile says it all. Also I like your hide net. Whats it woven with?

I've posted this before , it's a normal NATO north European camo net which I went to a Indian clothing shop and took some green leaves in an bought a few metres of matching nylon material. This I cut into strips and wove it in green on one side and brown on the other . This allows me to cover summer and winter.
