I know on the boxes it says to take with water, and excepting the plasticky type capsules which i assume would dissolve too early, do you take medicaton ( statins, painkillers or whatever ) with a warm / hot drink e.g. tea ?

I've asked pharmacists, g.p.'s and hospital consultants and had varied answers.

No.

Medications are tested in certain ways - with water gives a pretty narrow range of temperature, pH and other factors. These would have some effect on how the medication is absorbed by the body.

The effect of tea may be minimal and hence some will say its fine - however it's not how it's designed or tested so not officially 'correct'

Would I take meds with tea? Some - I wouldn't antibiotics or anything I wanted to be really confident in.

Mostly it's so it doesn't stick . If you can't have certain drinks tea, milk or orange juices it'll say.

My wife went on a course by a community pharmacist who said always a drink always sitting up and a biscuit or bread after to make sure!

I have to take about six tabs in the morning and I always used to take them with water I'm not good at taking tabs they tend to float in my mouth and not go down but I have found that taking them with orange juice the proper stuff not squash they do seem to be going down much better I always have a couple of biscuits after tacking them gets the gastric juices working better as has been said hot drinks can make the tabs stick to your tong so best avoided but cold tea would be ok I would think.

I have to take a no. of tablets which I have been taken God knows how long for mainly for high blood pressure and to keep my cholesterol at bay. The ones I take in the morning I take them with my coffee and the ones I take with my diner I wash them down with a glass of wine.!! I am not suggesting any one should do the same , but it has worked for me all this years.!!

Some meds should be taken after eating and some on an empty stomach. Some have coatings that somehow remain intact till the pill reaches the gut. I don't profess to be clever enough to explain that so ask a chemist is my opinion mate.
