BellySlater
Looks like teh season is here again, one afternoon's shooting and i've been nailed. Anyone got any tips (apart from cover up) on a repellant that actually keeps these little ***** away ?
JDog
They are right little ******** and I react adversely to their bite and I must admit I am a bit paranoid when they are around. I am not sure if repellant works very well. I just cover up well.
the pigeon man
Tee tree oil few dabbs on your hat jobs a gooden
indio
These things are worse than wasps. I get a strong reaction to their bites and swelling within minutes. I have used various brands of "Jungle strength" repellent but it doesn't always work with them. With mozzies a good dose of garlic in your meal the day before you go seems to help a bit but not with these. As far after being bitten what works well with me is a hay fever tablet straight away and rub some stuff called "Tiger Balm" ( it's in a little pot and most chemists now sell it) on the bite. As I say works for me but maybe others have got better info/ideas. good luck
la bala
i dont know what they leave in the bite, but they sure leave you with a good lump.
the pigeon man
All repellents have tee tree in some more than others pure tee tree in a little bottle 2-3 drops on your hat / back will keep them away all day just don't but it near your eyes ha

Nicholas Bottoms
Not sure how effective it is but I've heard that if you rub the inside of an orange skin up and down your arms a couple of times that's supposed to bee a good natural, relatively cheap repellent! pegasus bridge
i dont know what they leave in the bite, but they sure leave you with a good lump. The filthy beggars cut off a tiny piece of flesh apparently to eat later, which is why the bites are very painful for most people.
Mike737
I was bitten by a horsefly on my leg in Cornwall in about 1970, and it STILL swells up sometimes. Evil little blighters!

Not good ...high deet factor repellent is always in my shooting bag
Bluebarrels
Become a PW shooter, frequent off topic and stay indoors by your laptop that's the way to avoid nasty bites BB
gazbev
Avon so soft, iour forces use it and it works,my kids seem to get bit by gnats or whatever they are and a couple of squirts of the stuff and no bites at all,my mate uses it for fishing too. The only drawback is it is for women and you will smell like whores handbag
marc147
+1 for Avon skin so soft. Spray it on and leave it works best if you don't rub it in.

halfbee
Avon as above. You smell like an old ladies hand bag but you don't get bit.
Reeceknight
I read that it's the females that bite because they need a "blood meal" to reproduce successfully lol so in other words you could take it as a compliment? She likes you!
JDog
I have ordered some 'Avon so Soft' to combat the likely horse fly attack this weekend. Have I fallen for a very clever spoof or will I be getting good protection from the little tinkers? Edited July 4, 2013 by JDog

cody123
As above, thumbs up for Avon skin so soft, but if you are bitten, I got some stuff in Queensland called "Stingoes" the aussies swear by it for the pain and reducing the swelling. Dont know if its available here but I'm sure you'll get it on the net.
bruno22rf
Someone told me years ago that Brut aftershave works-I use it in the summer and I have never been bitten by anything-could be a coincidence but I'm going to stick with it.
