Spent many months buying Dysons from the local dumps and fixing them b4 selling them on so I know the machines inside out-if you don't have carpets buy a Henry and run it without the bag-if you do have carpets buy a broken DC07 with brush control from tinternet and call Dyson out for a service-£70 for a complete replacement of any part that's worn or broken (inc the motor) gets you a good suck for under a ton.

If one hadn't read the title of this thread then you would be excused for thinking that it was some sort of porn or alternative cyber sex site. It makes me somewhat worried about the state of affairs when men start talking about vacuum cleaners. They will be comparing the merits of floral print pinnies and which washing up liquid is best.

Oh well better get on with cleaning the oven, then do the washing up and the ironing.

> Miele, they are superb and top the Which? lists. German efficiency and built to last.

So everyone says but when we moved here in 2000 we bought a Miele washing machine. It cost a fortune and lasted ~ 4.5 years and that was mostly with just the two of us,

it also didn't spin things well so they ended up smelling musty.

It was going to take > 1 week to get a Miele technician out to fix it so I went out and bought a £300 Zanussi which is still going strong, and that's with two

daughters the whole time so it's used all the time.

I think you pay a lot more for the reputation of reliability than acutally reliability.

The new handheld dyson is superb if you have a spare £250 knocking about , the reason people use Henry's isn't because they are good, its because they are cheap, basic and hard wearing and too tight to buy a real vacuum

Absaloute rubbish. There tried tested and extremely good. As a matter a fact any Hoover made by Numatic is going to be good. They were mad for industry and adopted by the home user.

The local recycling centres are full to bursting with dysons, cheaply made over priced **** in my very honest opinion. And yes I/we have owned one and its since gone to the tip.

Henry or one of its derivatives all the way.

Another vote for Henry - we've got one and it's great. A mate of mine has just got a pink one which may suit you better? ;)

NJC, Knowing what i know, your 8 year old henry will probably still be in the box it came in.

we had the dogs and kids, mixed floor covering and a dyson animal. had a fair number of years. use once a day, sometimes twice. need to clean the filters every 3 months or so but its still running well

+1 for the kirby.

A door to door salesman called in the farm where i used to work. He gave it large about its performance so mrs farmer called him out and got him to demo it in the dogs room. The carpet was chuffing foul, if you went in with wet boots you left with felt soles. He did one pass and she had it on the spot. The carpet was like new.

As said, pricey but what a tool. Some bizarre alternative applications also.

We have 2 "short hair" cats and when they lie on the carpet they shed all over it, tried both Hoover and Dysons so called Pet vacuums and found them hopeless, bought a re-conditioned Panasonic bagless upright off Fleabay for £40 and it does a fantastic job.

I think an industrial hoover is probably the best option, I have one at work. They just don't look as nice in the cupboard and are not as neat and compact and I cant find any shoes to match when I'm hovering.

Hope you have used it this morn before you came on to the forum
