JDog
A good post. Don't give up, just watch from the car until you are recovered. You may learn more about pigeon behaviour to help you when you go out again.
Cranfield
It can be a very frustrating pastime, you have my sympathy.
eccles
Cheer up bud ,i know what the bad back feels like, sometimes i feel like giving up shooting all together but like to get out now and then for a bash at the bunnies.foxes and would miss bashing the old crows to much. As JDog said watch and then set up ,thats what i do now if no crows etc go back home, they will turn up 1 day then they cop it. atvb Terry
fenboy
The only thing I would add to the above posts is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> How did you know the pigeons were going to Manchester
malkiserow
The flock is the give away ...... I find them bad news. One bang and they all clear off as a flock. I try to follow flight lines. I 'd much rather attract ones and twos.
BLACK
Funnily enough a friend told me earlier this week that there are large numbers just off the M62 near Manchester. He was stuck in traffic and watched them hammering the fields near the motorway. If its any consolation my last 3 days out have resulted in: 1 feral 3 woodies 2 jackdaws 2 Woodies This isn't due to poor shooting. This was all that came to the pattern. In fairness I was able to drive to the hide so there was little physical struggling. Despite these poor days I am undeterred. Its the bad days that make me really appreciate the good ones. turbo33
I know that feeling Rapid Basher Its a beautiful day here and I'm trying to talk myself out of spoiling it by going pigeon shooting They are so jumpy that the only success I've had is 70 yards away with the Rifle. Bags probably the same as yours..........managed a whopping two yesterday :o Still, managed to forced myself into the pub on the way home for a Guinness which made it all worthwhile Edited August 31, 2013 by turbo33
PUSC
I would offer to carry the kit for you - or take along a young'un to drag it.
rimfire4969
I blame your kit. Send it down to me and I will run a few test days with it for you, ohh and your guns please.
superspark
Its very annoying when you have carried all your kit, set up and all you can do is watch them fly over head and not decoy in. This happened to me last week end and there was nothing I could do about it. The week before was much better but that's just the way it goes. Its nice to shoot a good bag but at the end of the day its the taking part that counts. Get an electric cart to carry all your kit, will make it much more easy on your back. sitsinhedges
This year has been the most frustrating ever with a real struggle to find any birds at all let alone decoy them, all that time and fuel and for what? If you keep plugging away the good days will turn up, and usually unexpectedly. It's not a game for the faint hearted a lot of the time and if you wrote it down on paper you'd wonder what the hell you were doing in the first place. The good days are awesome though B) Edited August 31, 2013 by sitsinhedges

pigeon controller
I put my back out last week carrying the battery , I continued shooting and it got worse to the point I could not take high shots. Went out crow bashing Wednesday full of pills and had blurred vision but managed 125 crows. Back still bad 900 birds out of the freezer for the Game Dealer . Plenty of pills, a great weekend shooting see sporting pictures. I've been shooting this area for 24 years and when I started I would spend all day out for 9 pigeon but stay with it JDog says watch the flocks and you will learn . Field craft is learnt and can not be bought at the shooting shop. Yesterday one of my farms had a shooter set up on the top of a hill with no rotary but a flapper set up about a meter up in the air you could see it for miles , no birds near the flapper was too high if it was just off the deck it would have been seen and looked natural. Stay with it and you will benefit if you see a shooter out watch his set up and see the reaction to his pattern and note for your set up . Remember what works ,when. utectok
Cut down on your kit? One of me best days was with half a dozen deeks a piece of camp netting and a stool. Keeping mobile is more important on some days than having loads of gear?

mx8
could have been worse and you'd shot a lot of pigeons and you'd had to carry them back too lol there's a lot to be said for light kit, one of our best buys in recent years was fuds . here iam
keep it simple get near flight lines deeks facing into wind cant beat dead birds but you got shoot em first see where their coming in and out ,pigeon controller says field craft you can have the best stuff on the market doesnt mean owt if you cant use it in the right place s , keeping well hidden helps too. ESSEX ROB
Had a great afternoon last week when I only took 6 fuds and my net. Shot 34 in two and a half hours. Usually I take all my kit set it all up and they just don't want to play.
