stoggieman
Just had a very strange pcso knock on the door. Wife answered it and this guy said I have come about your certificate Wife who has altzimers said I will get my husband This guy then asked me if I was sure I wanted to go ahead with a new certificate had I owned guns before and did I know how to use one properly I told him that I had owned guns since I was about 10 years old and that I had all ways had the correct licences in place apart from when I was serving abroad when the guns were in my brothers possession. He then told me he had it in the car and would come to see me on friday afternoon to ask me some questions and check the guns. I found his attitude a little off putting, He freightened my wife with his attitude and I am not happy about it. All he had to do was check my old certificate to find out that I have owned guns for some time 55 years in fact. Why could he not do the check tonight ? we do not have a high crime rate here and he would have saved time doing it there and then. I have not used the guns for about 6 years due to a accident that left me without the use of my left leg but this should not bar me from owning shotguns. Could this be another ploy to get shotguns out of public hands? I wonder if anyone else has had such an experience? Peter

aga man
i have have heard of similar stories locally recently of officers persuading elderly farmers that they don't need there shotguns anymore. i am sure it's part of ploy to get gun numbers down? right or wrong it's your right to own a shotgun certificate and up to the police to prove otherwise if they want to take it away. if you wasn't happy with the conduct of the pcso then contact the local station and complain about him. rgds aga man. stoggieman
He was in a police car but I will check with the local station in the morning. I just did not like his mannerism wife was terrified by his brisk attitude. Has an ex RAF Policeman myself I found him rather odd to say the least. GingerCat
Bit odd to say the least ask your feo in the morning about it. I wouldn't have thought (but can't be sure on the point) that a pcso would be sent door knocking to ask questi about a cert/fac holder . keg
I think this smells fishy and if nothing else, is worth a call. Never come across a PCSO doing this.
Kes
PCSO's are to be given quite a few new powers but not yet got them. Hope you got his name/ number - as your wife was frightened you must report this via your FEO and if necessary put it in writing. Should only check your general demeanor at a meeting you agree to. This was wrong and just simply unacceptable. Let us know how you get on. ATB.
spanj
round here they are called "plastic policemen". Clearly a case of a little power going to somebodies head. Put a complaint in and reign in a little of his excess..............
phaedra1106
FEO that came out to see me about my FAC application and my son about his SGC was a definitely a PCSO. Very nice chap, very professional and knowledgeable.

ack-ack
You learn something new everyday. My one is ex fuzz but not a pcso.
norfolk dumpling
It does get confused - had a neighbourhood problem a few years ago and PCSO (wife calls them chocolate police) arrived to resolve. Wife asked him if he was up to job and he replied that he used to be a real copper so some of them may be more capable than we might first think. He did a good job by the way and I'm not a big fan of modern policing.
RED BEARD
i've never had anyone just turn up from the firearms department, they always make an appointment.
houlsby
Ahh now then, are you from goole by any chance? I had the "east Yorkshire prosecution and crime squad" leaving me messages the other week on the house phone. No info just "this is east yorks prosecution and crime squad, can you call us" It was for a bloody land check, and the fella was a right bell end on the blower. Giving me the third degree as to why I wanted a 243 on "that land"..
Sprackles
My FAC interview was done by a PCSO too....called unannounced first time but I wasn't in. Made appointment after that.
neil3728
When I had my first interview for my shotgun licence, I had a PCSO come around and check my application form. He was a nice guy and we had a good chat. Edited September 25, 2013 by neil3728
Dekers
FEO that came out to see me about my FAC application and my son about his SGC was a definitely a PCSO. Very nice chap, very professional and knowledgeable. Agreed my local feo is a pcso. Many FEO are civilians, only a few are actually Warranted Police Officers these days. PCSO and FEO are different jobs and "anybody" can apply for either position. There is no reason as far as I'm aware that a PCSO cannot be a FEO as well, BUT... it would be unusual for your "normal" PCSO to get involved in Firearms work as part of their regular work. stoggieman
Well the pcso turned up today all went well and he gave me my new ticket . I just find his mannerism a little off putting though. He tried the racism, political chat but got no where with that asked about military service so told him it was not something to talk about to a stranger. I think he liked this but hell was he a strange person hope I do not have to meet him again for at least another 5 years and by that time I will have sold the guns and taken up knitting. Guest rimotu66
Peter, congrats on getting your licence renewed, what did you mean by racism, political chat? It sounds like he was trying to trip you up which cant be right can it? Am bloody glad he is your side of the Humber mate
dadioles
If you feel uncomfortable about the attitude of the chap that called at your house give the police station a call and ask to have a brief chat to one of the inspectors. Keep it "off the record" and not a complaint but just a "chat". It may be that this particular guy is a bit of an oddball and not really suited to the job. Rexcernui
Pcso is an anagram of cops. Which is about as close as they will get to being one.
liam_italian
Was he legit? Not in a pcso remit is it? My force has in the past posted pcso's to carry out the role of firearms licensing officer. So it's not unheard of. Normally our firearms officer is a civilian anyway and not a police constable.
