blackbird
I was wondering what the most common choke set up (multi choke shotgun) that is, for rough shooting pheasant, rabbit & woodcock I tend to go 1/4 & 1/
Fal
Same here! 1/4 and 1/2 for me!
wymberley
Nothing really wrong with what you already have. But the 1/2 only gives an extra 14 pellets over the 1/4 assuming the proverbial 1 1/16 oz of No 6s which is less than one extra per bird in the target area. Sometimes to offset that if you're looking at a more rangey shot then 3/4 can be the better option - especially if you are loaded with a larger size pellet and up springs the 'cock and you have to wait 'til he straightens up. Having said that the proviso is that what you think you have is what you're actually got which can only be determined via the pattern plate. ollie
In my semi-auto I will use 1/4 for woodcock and if a Pheasant or Rabbit gets up I would be confident of knocking it down with a size 7. If I am going out on the pheasants specifically I will use size 6's in 1/2 or 1/4 choke.

welshwarrior
I like a nice variation but can't make up my mind so 3/8 3/

fenboy
I use 3/4 for just about all my shooting , I like the option of taking birds a little further out .
Big Al
1/4 and 1/2. Or 1/4 and 3/4. Covers every eventuality with a flick of the barrel selector.
figgy
1/4 for most live game as I don't want it ruining with to much shot. In my gun clays are still smashed at good distance with 1/4 so I know it patterns ok. 1/2 is for high birds and pigeons with the semi. Scully
Quarter and half with 32grm 5's. Most walked up quarry is going away so I like to hit them hard. Edited November 13, 2013 by Scully
Cawdor118
I pretty much always use 3/4 & 3/4 for my sporting clay gun, but personally I would drop a size to 1/2 on walked up shoots as you don't want to ruin the meat of the birds. Whitebridges
No hint nor clue what choke is in the gun but didn't miss anything. If I thought I couldn't be sure of killing it I don't pull the trigger.
wildfowler.250
At the moment I always use half in my semi auto for everything. My 12 with fixed chokes used to be really open and it never held me back. It's not something I would over think.
brett1985
quarter in my semi auto for everything, clays and game. it patterns well, even at a distance. i think the main thing is pattern testing at several ranges with the same choke. and knowing your limits.
