escortmagnum999
nothing really gets to me at a game fair, any country show in the land will over charge for food and drink simply because its a captive audience. Although in the last few years I have heard of a lot of thieving going on from traders, which cant be a good sign.
The Essex Hunter
I went to a few country fairs last year and imho they, particularly the trade stands were rubbish. Just at the end of the pigeon coying season really, and just before fowling season and all they had was super expensive pigeon kit. When asked about fowling kit/coys all was said was "it's on the webpage" fine if you know what you're looking for but **** if you want to see the options in person. Rant over let's hope they are better this year. I have a simple solution......I never go preferring to support my local gun shop. Muddy Funker
+1 on the trade stands. Who wants to spend upwards of £4000.00 for a hot tub The other thing that annoys and stops me going is the entrance fee. You go with the intention of haggling the price down on your new hot tub, only to be charged £20 plus for the privilege. Haha, Or those thatched wooden outside dining rooms. countryman
Went to Newbury show last year and 2 jobs worths were in charge of 2 gates that had to shut when a horse appeared, the horse would be going at a snails pace 100 yards away and they would shut the gate and every one would stand there like lemons waiting, some times the person on the horse would get with in 50 yards of the gate then turn around and go back. Salopian
I think the Midland Game Fair at Weston Park is everything bad that you guys are talking about. It used to be brilliant, but now it is overpriced entry fee, overcrowded with pykie thieving louts. Also it is getting far too big carboot style stalls such as bygones, WI type cake stalls you need a loan to buy a burger and a drink. Traffic chaos all topped of with Ian Harford the CEO decked out in RealTree three piece suit and a smug smile saying 'Welcome to my rip off domain, hope you have a nice day but I'm not really bothered as long as you have paid my unreasonable entrance fee.' Paddy Galore!
don't mind them for a day out, i don't bother looking for much stuff to buy as it's usually the same price or a little more than in the shop. it's nice to catch up with old friends, and i did enjoy the helicopter ride, chaisaw demos etc. and laugh at all the camo wearers
Gunnerbob
Won't go to any of them , entry price is a rip-off..
Scully
Must of missed the other three...Due to so much to see!! Even some of the trader said the gate price was a rip off... It was a much bigger fair when the Horse Trials were part of it, but there were no gun stalls. Now it is one of the Countryman Fairs, so is all part of the same formula which can be somewhat boring, but at least there are gun stalls which is a bonus. Azzurri
I used to love game fairs, Weston Park years ago was great along with a few smaller fairs too. Really can't be bothered these days, final straw for me was when my little one was toddling and she came face to face with a lurcher pit bull cross, more muscles than Arnie in his prime...there's no need for it, why take a dog like that with scars on it's head etc round a fair... Another thing that ****** me right off is paying the entry when you just want to go to the clay shoot...they used to have a shooters car park and if you did want to have a walk round the fair you then paid to get in . Is just a sign of the times or are the best days of country fairs behind us....maybe i'm just getting old Azzurri.

felly100
Annoys me? The Red Arrows at Chatsworth last year were worth the entry fee alone. Oh,that and my terrier kicking butt at the end.
bi9johnny
You have let me down chaps....... Not a single complaint of people walking round camo up to the eyes hehehe They are expensive to get in I take a cool box and a jetboil so back to the car for a picnic and fresh brew, you can taxidermy the burgers lol Too much none country tatt Why people take the dogs with them unless working or showing them is a puzzle Love the demonstrations whether they are done the way I do it or not Hate the cookery tent, they could bore me to sleep Food halls always good for a mid morning snack Too many charity things that don't look genuine Apart from that I only do 3/4 a year and her indoors likes them so I don't mind much
kent
A list, 1. crazy entrance prices 2. dogs in cars (there is always at least one idiot) 3. why bring a dog anyhow if you not competing 4. dogs with neckerchiefs on - (makes them look like something from the village people) 5. Food and drink cost - unbelievable 6. charging full price for kids over say 14yrs not 16 or 18 etc 7. charging for kids full stop really 8. people competing with dogs in the scurry that look like they have never been trained 9. rubbish routes in done by committees and NIBYS 10. Smarty pants stall holders, who assume all customers are considerably less experienced than they have 11. selling dogs and other animals on the carpark etc. Hey, Just call me MR Meldrew! secretagentmole
We take our own food too, the old cool box with a 2 litre bottle of frozen water in works well! Own drinks too. The prices for food cary between excruciating and exorbitant! Local papers usually have a stand so you can get the local paper, usually a bottle or two of water and some sweets for not a lot of cash (keeps the cost of buying drinks down a lot). Things I really hate is when they advertise things that do not happen, such as a gunmakers row when there was not a single gun stall in sight (Robin Hood Fairs). yod dropper
Our county show (Royal Norfolk Show) is really good due to the fact that it has not just retained but keeps the agricultural as the core and indeed main event. The East of England show admitted that not doing this was its downfall; I believe it has now gone back to its roots. Game shows and whatnot are just another shopping experience from what I've seen, hence I don't go.
krugerandsmith
Pillocks with more dogs than ben hur has horses, all straining in multiple directions and cutting a 10 foot wide swathe through the crowds tripping people up and leaving **** everywhere. Absolutely correct.

I went to my first Midland Game Fair must be over 30 years ago when I was judging the terrier show, And i have only missed one since. This year I was very disappointed with the show - arrived at 8.00 am and was on the way home by 1.00 pm.
stephenNE
some people have to take their dogs to them since quite a few people will make a weekend of it and can't leave their dog at home personally i don't see this as a problem if they are trained and not causing havoc maybe its just me though
