Can't hit a barn door with either but enjoy my sundays out trying. Be Lucky

I thought as much, Hatsan owners have no sense of humour............. the chip on the shoulder makes it too painful to laugh.

Would never touch one personally, Just purchased a used, yes "used" Beretta S05 Sporter, for 16k, the wife would not let have a new one.

People should man up buy a proper gun not a toy type thing.

Good to see you 'manned up' to the wife!

16 grand to dip it in a salt marsh and roll it around a muddy field? Even if I had the money I wouldn't waste it like that.

Shotguns are no different to any other material possession in life, there will always be people with a different opinion to yours. Whether it is Vauxhall or Ford, Barbour or Primark, Hatsan or Beretta, Dunlop or Le Chameau, etc.

Some people interpret a different opinion as snobbery or rudeness, some people feel hard done by because others spend money they can't, it is just the difference between people.

Undoubtably there is snobbery, inverse snobbery, a bit of ignorance, tongue in cheek comments, but that is true for everything.

Some folk are just insecure and need some sort of acceptance or approval in their taste. Equally people are passionate about their interests which means they become passionate about their choices, that is healthy.

I quite honestly couldn't give a hoot about what other people have, it makes no difference to me at all. Buy what you want to buy with your own money and accept that what you choose other people might not, but it really doesn't matter. If folk look down their nose at you then they are clowns who are not worth caring about, equally if folk are bent out of shape with jealousy because you have something they aspire to, but can't, well they are clowns too.

People that are slaves to any brand because of image are a bit sad to my way of thinking, brand loyalty as a result of a good experience is different.

When I meet another shooter wether it be at the clay ground or in the field the first thing I take note of is the way he greets me and respects me and passes the time of day, Not the gun he's shooting with be it a berretta, purdy or Hatsun or vehicle he drives, Range rover, Mercedes or a push bike, we are all doing something we love and enjoy and when we are doing it we are all equall.

It's nice to listen to opinions from other shooters about different guns and techniques as no matter how old we are you can always learn from others.

:hmm::hmm::hmm: ...I would have to suggest that by the time you have taken these out the options left are somewhat limited......

I don't know about people looking down on hatsans and the like, this thread is full of nothing but people looking down their noses at those who have/can afford higher grades.perhaps the original post should have said is it snobbery or jealousy.i think you normally find that people who don't like the cheaper makes just do not buy them.i have heard banter between mates when out shooting.but never any malice.i shoot higher grade guns because I can not because I am better than anyone else.we are all equall.atb

Twice you've alluded to guns you find unacceptable on driven days now,and I have done my best to ignore it,but your comments above are in themselves a form of snobbery. 'Traditionally' driven game shooting was undertaken with sxs hammer guns, and flint locks prior to them, and black powder before the advent of nitro. No doubt you find o/u's acceptable though, another 'untraditional' gun?

As I've said before, this sort of aloof attitude does shooting no favours at all. On beaters day, we have half a dozen kids who have worked hard, turned up early in all weather , for no pay and little in the way of thanks for their efforts from the guns; plus, on THEIR day they have to take a turn beating as few of the guns could make the effort to turn up and beat for one single day as a thank you, just for the chance to shoot birds on beaters day. If one or two of them turn up with a rattly old auto or pump, or a single barrelled ejector, who the hell am I to tell that kid his gun isn't welcome on our shoot! It must be pure snobbery (none of those dashed colonial automatics and crude pumps for us old chap) as it can't have anything to do with safety, otherwise there'd be dead Yanks all over the place in the USA. It is 'traditional' to apologise for the rant at this stage, but I wont, as this sort of narrow minded snobbish attitude annoys the **** out of me and if I wasn't such an avid shooter I would dearly hope to still be alive when the demise of shooting in this country is brought about, simply so I could see the tortured looks on the faces of those with attitudes such as yours. Tradition is fine, but not at the cost of exclusion.

We truly get all we deserve as we simply just can't seem to learn, can we? Beggars belief, it really does.

On the highlighter point, Old farrier is not excluding them, its down to the shoot whether they allow autos or pumps, but would many lend the chap a different gun?

if you allow perceived snobbery to irritate the life out of you, then I would say its jealousy that drives you  and you can pretend its not all you like , back to gun snobbery or jealousy, if you won the pools first thing that would go would be your clapped out old banger and a new aston martin etc would be on the drive, same with guns, you end up with what you want but only if you can afford it, IE if you can then why not? oh and as for the hatsan debate, I have a fair few "nice" guns even once owned a Beretta eell which I bought new, but also have £70 zabala and a £300 Winchester 101 (lovely gun) but would I have a hatsan nope rubbish is rubbish regardless of it being cheap or expensive its still rubbish

I have no idea whether anyone would lend the chap a gun not not. My point is that if the chap can't use his gun of choice then he is excluded and possibly made to feel that way. Just the sort of thing a young lad of impressionable age will remember.

Remember that o/u shotguns were also frowned upon until those of significant influence among the aristocracy and landed gentry decided they were acceptable.

'A more suitable gun for the day' just about sums up the snobbery rife within the shooting fraternity.

We are wondering into a whole new area of tradition/snobbery, that has nothing to do with Hatsans which are just plain awful.

Frankly I don't see tradition and shoot rules as snobbery, join any club and it has rules, that doesn't mean your local Casino/Social Club/Bingo Hall/etc/etc is full of snobs!

ATB!

Edit

I am fortunate to be involved with, and shoot on the best and most privileged shoot in the country, the people do not come any higher in the social strata and it is one of the least Snobbish places you could shoot! I have not seen the level of snobbery anywhere as suggested here, but on the odd occasions it has reared its head it is by those attempting to climb the social ladder, not those that were born at the top of it!
