malkiserow
Are these people for real? I can think of little better use for a grey squirrel than to eat it in some good food. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-27393717
Lord Geordie
She seems to neglect the FACT, that whilst they may not clobber reds over the head! They DO consume not only eggs from birds nests, But the infants also! I thini She needs to perhaps read more in depth articles on the grey's before opening her pie hole
Mentalmac
Oh and shooting them is inhumane... as you can't get a clean shot... Wonder how many times she has tried. To be fair, they are hardy little critters and need a good shot placement with an airgun to kill them. But I have shot them on the ground with the HMR before and there wasn't much left to worry about. Certainly do make a good pie as well. I love squirrels, that picture Dekkers put up with hundreds in one photo made me feel peckish!
Eddie57
Couldn't agree more, there's stacks of them working the trees at the moment seeing what they can rob, only on the weekend saw two blackbirds going mental and try to attack something and then I could a see a grey moving in on the nest. At the end of the day if you hit one cleanly with a decent air rifle or something even bigger then that's got to be the best and quickest humane option. thepasty
Its funny how you never see these people talking so defensively about rats, millions die a horrible death every year and yet thats fine! Purely because some humans are incapable managing their emotions, "aaaawwww look at the wittle grey squirrel, isnt he cute! we must save them!" If it were rats charging about the trees doing as squirrels do everyone would be up in arms screaming "KILL THEM ALL!" Double standards. Mentalmac
In fairness, those Kania traps are pretty good at doing the job. They can snap plastic pipes in half and bend metal let alone break a squirrels neck... One went off next to me once and I jumped for my life haha. Westward
Greys are just tree rats and IMO not shooting them is inhumane to our native reds. The stupid sarcastic remark that greys don't go round bashing reds just makes the woman look juvenile and ill informed. I suppose she's one of the morons at the local garden centre buying squirrel food. Yes they really sell it... squirrel food! When I was a kid we could collect a bounty for grey squirrel tails - but then we were allowed to go more than 5 feet from our parents. kingo15
One of my old neighbours used to feed them with food brought from a garden centre. He couldn't understand why they stopped going in his garden. He thought they had gone off his food. I didnt bother telling him that my air arms put them on a diet. Dekers
The piffle that some organisations come out with is amazing! The Mighty Prawn
32gms of lead is pretty humane - would she advocate trapping, letting them stress in a trap and then killing them? The rat comment is priceless, classic bunny huggers hate it when you ask about killing rats, or flypaper, or the fact their beloved tiddles is busy massacring the songbirds

Without a shadow of a doubt. they did not no what hit them ,not much left . and before anyone says they were on the ground ,and I was shooting down . Sorry perhaps my sarcasm came across wrong, having seen a hmr in action several times i was never in much doubt there was not a lot left of them. superspark
Oh ANTIES ANTIES ANTIES, when will they learn? Knowledge is power. They have very little knowledge and the lack the brain power to aquire it in the first place. Oh well, you can't educate pork, you just eat it. Did I just have a go at the less informed? Shame, now they can feel what its like when the "shoe is on thr other foot" lol
