A nice afternoons sport

It is only two or three days since I was bemoaning the lack of pigeon on the peas I shoot over.

However I have now started to notice a few on some of the fields and today had a text from the farmer to say quite a few were on a couple of fields in particular.

So I thought it would be rude not to have a look :) it was 4pm before I managed to get down the field and I put perhaps 200 or so off one end , so looked promising , except the wind would be in my face and the sun in my eyes , if I set up there , I watched the pigeon starting to return and they were coming over a sugar beet field across a large tree then turning to head for the peas.

So I decided to intercept them on the beet and set up under the tree , this turned out to be a mistake as lots of pigeon came into the tree that I could not get a shot at , I should have set up a field hide .

But never mind , I started with 15 of the ringers sock decoys , and managed to replace them all with dead birds within a hour and also put the magnet out , today the magnet did not seem to make much difference to be honest but it was not putting them off so I left it out.

I can honestly say I was amazed at just how many birds were about and I think there may have been upwards off 1500 birds dropping in several areas of the large pea field , I managed to pull quite a few but unfortunately shot as poorly as I have for years !

I managed 53 with another couple not picked but I really should have had 20 or so more for the 101 shots I fired

I will be paying the peas another visit this week so hopefully the pigeon will stick around.

1500 on one field? What have you been doing with your time recently?

Its literally gone from nothing to that in the space of a couple of days, I could not believe my eyes they were constantly going to the peas from around 16.00 and were still dropping in at 20.30 when I made it back to the car ( dont forget something to put the dead birds in , it makes it a long job if you forget ! )
