our Asda is now 112.7 for diesel,

However it was on our local news tonight that an independant was charging 159.9 for diesel an thruppence less for petrol,

Go to 5 minutes 24. (it might start then)

Thropton Northumberland.

He said on interview that it was his supplier who set the price, apparently he only has small storage tanks and they are quite away from depot so get charged horrendous delivery charges which he has to pass on,

He is hoping for a meeting this week to try and get it down to the 120's

When they asked the locals why they used him, his also runs the village shop and taxi business and they like to support local businesses,

Can anyone shed light on how the maths of pricing works? US crude is down to $50 per barrel 136 litres per barrel say 37 cents a litres unrefined. Assume treble that for refinery and transportation. So 66p a litres plus tax ???? I dont get it help please.

Yes it is remarkably simple;

As the price of crude oil rises we pay more and more, as the price of crude oil drops we very slowly pay a little less, seems to be the same with all forms of fuel!

Road fuel duty is a fixed price per litre - so as the oil price goes down, the only component which is reduced is the fuel component and the vat (which is a percentage of the total price).

Here is an example:

FWIW - I saw 106.9 Petrol, and 111.9 diesel today.

When you hear the price of oil has come down from 115 dollars per barrel to 49 it still appears to me we are being ripped off. I fully appreciate we will not see 60/70p per litre as there are fixed costs to consider but it appears someone must be trousering a rather large wedge of our money. And surely we are using more at these much much lower prices?

The "fixed costs" in our case is tax. Our actual price of fuel is very competitive compared to the rest of the world. Before you bemoan the tax just be thankful you have an NHS.

Saw 103.9 petrol and 109.9 diesel today
